Teel: you are right, we have way too little space for sleeping. And we've been trying years to come up with a good solution, but we are stuck with the space we have. So we have to try to and optimize the use. We have I believe 6-8 people in Security assigned only to instructing people (e.g. leading them by hand to the right place to sleep) and covering the area. It is not good, but it's the best we can do at this venue.

On drunk people: we don't have any hard limit on how drunk you can be and still get in. If you are really drunk (walking in circles etc), we won't let you in. If you have had a few beers and don't make too many wise remarks about the Security staffers at the door =), you won't have an issue getting in.

I quite liked this year's party but then again I basically just came to the arena to watch the major compos. The afternoons were spent doing a production and evenings at boozembly where I did get to meet a lot of friends I hadn't seen in a while and also some new people.

btw. maybe the scene booth could be moved to the place where it was last year?

I really enjoyed this year, organizing the Extreme compos & oldskool demo, and still had ample time for Boozembly madness.

As a private person, I'm going to say "FUCK ALL THE HATERS."

I had loads of fun at Assembly, thanks to all the organizers! Even though there weren't that many entries in the compos, overall their quality was really good.

Diamondie: What did you expect from Assembly? What should've happened there to make you happy?

The only complaint I have off the top off my head is the prizegiving. The sponsor compos' prizegiving took way too much time. They were quite a pain to sit through, and I had to catch a train before they got to the scene compos...

I was also wondering why the prizegiving was mostly done in Finnish this year...

On the topic of security checks: they're totally symbolic anyway. It's fairly easy to get stuff inside even an airplane post-9/11 as has been reported by some journalists who did some tests and it's not like the asm security does a body-check so you could get in all sorts of weapons and some booze if you were so inclined. I don't see what the, is the point of digging around your bags for a full five minutes sometimes...

decipher, there was a parking lot 30 meters away from bzm area, which was free to use and without any security hassle.

On the language in the ceremonies: I used more Finnish in the less important compos (like the sponsored stuff), and then alternated between Finnish and English in the demoscene compos. Reasons

1) 4500 Finns
2) English text on the big screen
3) My bad pronounciation of English

;-) Anyway, apologies if you missed any vital stuff. As for the # of sponsored compos. Yeah, there were way too many - not next year.

3) is a crap argument. we're all non-native speakers and everybody who's ever been to a slightly international demoparty is able to perfectly understand the typical finnish accent. shame is no good reason to disrespect those people who actually did some effort to show up.

in fact, i think 1) is also a crap reason - those finns understand English perfectly, and the ceremonies and stuff are a great opportunity to make them feel some of the international aspects of an event like assembly - they're part of something big, something significant. significant enough to draw many foreigners. sure, a small percentage compared to the amount of finns but still enough to make the rest notice the scope of the event they're at.

oh and the Svenska folkpartiet asked me to complain about the fact that there was no swedish translations, visible or audible, in any of the announcements!

note: not intended as a personal attack (i wasn't even there). i just think there are still too many (big and small) parties with loads of non-english announcements, making people who travel a lot to demoparties feel very unwelcome. the argument is often "oh but this was about a french car that was parked wrong" or "yeah but there's some people from the area here too" but those don't stop making the travellers feel disregarded.

the scene is a very international movement these days, much much more than it was in the last two decades.

oh and sorry for disregarding the uksceners and the panamericans with the "we're all non-native speakers" remark; that was stupid. call it the reverse wikipedia effect :-)

Assembly demoparty 08 is a big success as its the only one demoparty that still make
possible gamers to be interested in a creative point .
I was very excited walking around in circle completely drunked ( boozembly effect ).
Well an aarena is not the perfect place for stoned drunked pple, i must admit i have done
some circles for nothin ..

i so agree with ra, to have all the gamers shut their audio and lights to watch compos and demo compos is the best achievement of asm :p

this is the best way to keep the spirit :)

i doubt a gamer from nowhere could suddenly challenge smash, but making gamers sensitive to creative stuff beyond the pro products is a step ahead.
