Looking for GFXer (Gianas Return Game Project)

category: general [glöplog]
The Giana's Return Team (http://www.gianas-return.de) are enthusiasts and fans of the classic game "The Great Giana Sisters". Almost the full team has roots in the demoscene.

We already work on the sequel "Giana's Return" for many years now and usually the pixelgraphic part is the slow down factor. Our current guy has disappeard and now we are in search of a SKILLED 2D pixel graphic artist. You should have the knowledge how to get out most with the least possible color use and you should be also capable of doing animations.

We do have a fully working beta available, a video of an older beta can be viewed on Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNWDl9jZjwg).

The base are 8x8 tiles and the full screen size is 320x200 pixel. This is because we want to port the game to various platforms such as the Dreamcast, GP2x, GP32 etc... and scaling up is usually a smaller problem than scaling down.

The game will be absolutly free for everyone. It's planed to be released as freeware and there are really no plans to change this. Please understand that this is some kind of hobby for the team members and therefor we can not pay you anything. - Of course we would be willing to share any possible donations with you, if there are any.

A few screenshot impressions:

As said our pixel graphic artist disappear regular, for whatever reason. We are in need of a RELIABLE person who should also have the power to finish what he or she is starting. The second semi-public beta testing phase is planed for September to October and few things are left.

In particular we need to adjust two tilessets to match level themes, along with other adjustments or a new sprite here and there.

I believe a guy who knows what he's doing, could do this work in less than 20 hours of work.

If you are willing to help you will get all the credits and probably the fame connected with the release. As the game is beeing ported to several platforms you can also enjoy your work on many systems, so it's not just limited to one machine.

Please check the website at http://www.gianas-return.de for more information. A contact form is available there or you can just PM me.

Thanks for reading!

PS: The game will be most likly released at a demoparty WITH a game competition part, but we wont tell which one ;)

the game looks nice, but the music is really unsuiting (and, well... bad). what's with all those minor chords? all the 3 songs I heard sounded like finnish schlager. I mean where's the laid back reggae?
added on the 2008-08-01 14:03:00 by tempest tempest
interesting, i didn't even know finnish schlager exists. is it just as good as finnish polka?

I'd say it's even better. btw. Jeroen Tel's "Jeroen" is the architypical finnish schlager song.

here's some 80s uptempo electro-schlager with a dose of polka Nasta pimu

Sounds like Dutch 'Pirate music' as played by broadcasting pirates in 80s!

wow great link :)

try this for comparison. it's the cornerstone song of dutch schlager history, sung and composed by (tadadadaaaaa) a german. hell, it even includes the first appearance of happy hardcore vocal traditions! :-)

here's something mindblowing from the 70s, this time with english lyrics (poor attempt to break into international market) Danny & Armi - I wanna love you tender
