What's so special about firefox?
category: general [glöplog]
neither in my ubuntu, only in windows
Firefox this, Opera that. Happily, webkit (Safari in my case) is slowling eating away both of them. The opensource crowd is getting hyped about it like it was with the gecko engine before, and the engine already has made some insights into commercial applications (nokia phones, QT).
And in contrast to gecko it doesn't eat away all the avaible memory and is MUCH more standards compliant than gecko (Opera is really close, but webkit was first to pass Acid 3)
Yay for webkit \o/

One thing I found out. E.G. http://www.trackmania.com/ is rendered correctly using FF3 in Win, but is messed up in Linux. Can anyone confirm that?
this thread still alive >.>;
You guys are a bunch of nerds.
welcome to enlightenment.
one silly note : don't forget that adblock could modify the layout of a site if you are actually using this extension (that's why adblock provides a whitelist feature).
euh Movi the benchmark i've read was telling the contrary : Safari (3.1.1) is the browser that uses the more memory, even before (or after...) IE o_O

Thanks for that wonderful experience! That shit ate 100% of my memory and looked like running Debris on a 486. Makes me wonder if they have a single person in Nadeo who uses FF3?
Zest : except benchmarking Safari is pointless, since its a (lousy) port. The good benchmark would test safari on OSX (where its in Cocoa and using quartz and all of the OSX goodness). The reason it uses more memory on windows is because it has to load all of the foreign (to windows) libraries, like Carbon, the UIKit and so on.
Agh, fuckings to me for not using the preview button. I meant benchmarking Safari on Windows...
you cant compare those things at all, really. the app that uses more OS elements and resources wins invariably.
fuchsig, fuchsig, dieser feuerfuchs!
He probably meant the resized ones on profile pages. That or for some reason the icons are positioned between pixels.
