What's so special about firefox?

pera: you got it wrong. Only customs builds of Webkit and Opera do score 100/100 at Acid3.
The officials release of:
Opera 9.5 score 83/100
Safari 3.1 score 75/100
Firefox 3 score 71/100
Intenet Explorer 7 score ~6/100
Intenet Explorer 8b1 score ~10/100

So... Just out of curiosity, what browsers do you all use? Firefox for me :P
FF for me
It's not about this particular browser. It's about future of free software. You may like Opera or Firefox, it really doesn't matter. Download FF today and maybe ANY software will be free tomorrow, simple as that.
the big deal was that it was lightweight. Very few extras, it just did the basic essential stuff (1.0)
When you start adding plugins though, it gets heavy, and many plugins leak memory or chew cpu.
lots of stuff was added to the base install and it got heavy, crashy, and leaked memory without any plugins (2.0)
I've heard 3.0 is different. Maybe they did a big revert back to 1.0 so that it doesn't crash and leak memory. Maybe they finally started testing pre-release builds in a systematic way. They probably didn't.

Yeah, ending slavery was also bad for this very reason.
Safari on OS X and Firefox on Windows. Occasionally IE on Windows when Firefox doesn't work properly. Occasionally Camino on OS X when Safari refuses to do the trick.

We all know code biatches have a shitty job, but it's far from slavery.Yeah, ending slavery was also bad for this very reason.
Well, the main point there in that ridiculously exaggerated parable was that having more people working does not automatically mean it's a better state of things. Technology, for example, could be seen as making people lose their jobs when things get automated... :)
I use Opera 9.5 as my main browser, and Firefox 3, Safari 3.1 and IE 8b1 for testing.
Fei: What really matters is not free/open software but the support of open standards. Standards evolve all the time and the good , open or not, browsers stay up to speed.
Also who does the telcos or device manufacturers call to port, debug, extend and maintain an open source project for their device ? the guy working on an OSS project in his spare time ? No. Telcos and device manufacturers need a reliable support and dedicated development team and they can't afford to build from scratch.

FF is so good that, it manages to run even if windows tells him he crashed.
(Actually windows is dumb enough to confuse the Antivirus crash with a FF crash)

It has world record off the most downloaded Software in 24hours :D
poi, pretty sure - there was a progress bar, i waited it out (about 1:30 hour). when it was done it asked to restart opera, and then it wouldnt start. nothing on screen, very little cpu activity, but constant hd access. i waited it out one whole night, but nothing changed. i filed a bug report a few days ago.
