Dungeon Master
Dungeons of Daggorath - TRS-80
Crystalis - NES.
Harvest Moon - GBA
Wind Waker (the cell-shaded zelda) (gamecube)
Planescape:Torment _was_ brilliant.
I liked Oblivion as much as everyone else. Any game where you wander through nature collecting herbs, then grind/infuse/distill them with alchemy gear, and are able to level up by creating potions and poisons is a great game.
looking forward to the WH40k MMO, which so far is just a press release. MMOs are evil though. :D

i played sth on AtariST for a while named "MORIA" ...it was close to nothing graphicwise...an "A" for an Antlion,"a" for ants,"B" for the Balrog,etc...you ran through a Mace, illuminated by your Torch (if you didnt have a Torch, the Screen stayed Black completely, yeah),had the chance to dig the walls for nuggets,etc...that was a very hard game,as if you died you had to start completely over...getting to Level20 only took me some days already...lol.!
nowadays i´m into MMORPGs (sometimes) ,playing "Perfect World",which is FREE and is really fun so far...!
its just that these sort of games are very time-consuming at all.!!
aah,a Link to Moria.:

Nethack
Rogue
Drain Storm - not exactly cRPG, but based on
Stonekeep - remember playing quite a lot when I was 11-12... without understanding a shit ;]
Tower of Souls - quite unique game for a genre, appeared on Amiga (AGA and CD32), PC (DOS) and now is for PocketPC. Few elements in it are quite interesting, like alchemiy or ability to open chests or doors with pick-lock keys.

Nethack - yay :)
Never managed to ascend though due to lack of time/motivation ;)

ick! nethack flashbacks!
I'd like to add bloodwych to this list. It wasn't a great RPG, in fact a pretty poor Dungeon Master clone, but what made it nice was that you could play it with 2 people at the same time, and even better, could kick the shit out of your fellow player if you got sick of him stealing all the goodies before you could get to those :-)
Eye of the beholder 1&2 and Fallout 1&2.
Ow, and major fuckings to Eye of the Beholder III of course... darn, that one was a disappointment after the first 2 :-(
i never got the fascination for those eob titles and playing ultima underworld didnt quite help much either.. lands of lore converted me to the genre, but i still prefer the 2d snes ones ^_^ final fantasy <3 <3
eob 2 was great until you got to the bottom iirc. then it got hard to find the motivation to proceed further...
gargaj, yeah try 50% of all income by default, and 25%-180% on all buys as a monthly fee :[
Thus the term politics. poly means many, and ticks are little bloodsucking insects. Thus politics = many bloodsucking little insects. ...ok, thats not entirely true but it makes a lot more sense like that.

and the respawn system sucks too, it's totally untested.
Fallout 2, Baldur's Gate 2 and someone said Deus Ex was part-RPG so it deserves a place here.
(honorable mentions for Morrowind, Icewind Dale and Oblivion)

Baldur's Gate series seriously was a KICKASS game, yeah.
I love ADOM, but nothing beats the simplicity of good old Rogue.

FF VII
Some Zelda stuff.
Should start Fallout 1 & 2 soon-ish.
No one's mentioned Zork yet? :)

(ok technically maybe not an RPG, but still.. :))
Zork was _terrible_ gameplay. Too many guess-the-verb puzzles, lame irrational maze puzzles, and impossible deaths. Bedlam was much better.
BTW: I take back my previous answers. Super Columbine Massacre RPG is my current favorite. It wasn't made to make money, but to make a statement.

I played bloodwych back in time on the CPC. Not bad, I may try it again. Also on CPC, the blackland RPG from the Bollaware demogroup is really really great in many aspects, imho the best RPG in this computer.
And Super Columbine RPG ftw!

yeah, and when was the last special event for Outside? that was like 2000 years ago, and nobody's even sure if it happened, because nobody was logging back then.
Back then I enjoyed a lot Zelda - Link's Awakening and Gargoyle's Quest (both of them on GameBoy).
Then also Zelda - Ocarina of Time on N64 (Ultra HLE) until I lost the save-state files.... :\
