i guess this means all the other demoboxes were similarly delivered to new groups that needed them more over the typical compo winner demo group listed on latest scene.org awards twice. great to hear! cant wait to check that list.

Gargaj, i didn't know it.
Zoom, nice way of acting, keep it up.

ps: given that the "typical scene.org award winner" groups didnt even sign up, you're quite right :)

irokos: sorry, all this bitching about how "I don't get free hardware so I can't do a demo evar evar again *whine*" is bringing out the animal in me :)

irokos: sad to hear you guys didnt get your box (yet)..!

...but have to disagree...we got a Box,too and we didn´t even release anything in the last 12-13 years and only rare sceners still know about us nowadays.!
...ok,maybe it helped that our Basecode was set already before BP08 and we could show sth already.!

...but i think you´re (not completely) wrong by saying that only the Elite will get their Chances for/with the Demoboxes.! (not completely = except that some 1337-Groups got a Box for EVERY Member,hehe... ;) )

...everyone has a Chance by just showing off sth that looks promising i´d say.!

just wanna send some fukkins to the person who posted it on 4gamers btw ;)

irokos: even if we disregard the fact that we would've given a box to someone who already has that setup, what do you think we should've done? we had ~70-80 boxes. we got >120 signups. apply pigeonholing theorem and you'll realize it's not an easy job. we still tried to give it out to as many people as possible, and I think if you saw the list at BP on who received boxes, it wasn't just "top groups" - we simply couldnt have dealt with it in a way that pleases everybody and you were one of the (many) unfortunate groups who didn't make the cut. i mean, you can argue the same way that the Intel compo is unfair because they only select 5 groups.

if you have a better solution, i'm all ears.

I seriously don't care _at all_ about not having free top-notch hardware, my computer is 4 years old, and i don't plan to buy one soon'ish either. It's just that -i thought that- the elitism shown here was kinda disgusting, that's it. I wasn't aware about the fact that Liran had that hardware Gargaj linked above. Sorry for that.

So, as always, i guess the requirements to get a demobox is to be in the 1337-TOPTEN list of the best coders around, who won shitload of parties, and who'll win again another party because they'll be able to make some kind of prod with some awesome stuff they got given.

I got a box, and I don't think that I'm even close to qualifying for that description. I got an eventless summer holiday comming up though ;)
My reply above was aimed to Zoom.

ok.!

...everyone HAD a Chance by just showing off sth that LOOKED promising...
cocoon: anyone can still enter and win the compo, so showing off is still part of the game.

sounds good :)

...THAT´s MOTIVATING ;)

Gargaj, concerning that intel compo, this is THE example about how elitist a competition can be. I already talked about it in the intel democompetition thread, and my advice won't change on that point. At all.
Concerning anything else i said in that thread concerning the unfairness (if that word exists in english), i'm all ok, i mean, noone would have done better.
Sorry for having been so harsch in what i said.

Irokos : somehow I totally understand your point of view but as Gargaj pointed it out, there is no perfect solution.

If you think about it, at least Nvidia does things much better than Intel, not only giving away a lot of things but also allowing anybody to join the compo (unlike that elite Intel compo crap).

Gargaj : if people stick to their word (let's call that demobox thing a moral pact), we can expect an insane number of prods then :)

Fuckings to intel btw.

irokos: no offense, but in my experience elitism is much more apparent in the warez-scene, (I wouldn't even be surprised if people were kindof "used" to it), so I can see why you cry wolves when there are none.

Zoom, it's not because Titan makes cracktros that i'm in any way affiliated to the warez scene. I wouldn't even want to. I ain't used to elitism at all, never been used to it and wouldn't want to ever be.

Yeah fuckings to Intel for rewarding hard working groups :'(
Dear Gargaj,

Excuse me but you are making a big assumption here. The machine Liranuna was donating to a private demo party for one evening belongs to a company. The company is allowing the machine to be used that evening, which is fine, It is not is designated as a "demo development" machine" so "what's his excuse for not developing a great demo with it Liranuna". Also my understanding is that the Titan team is based all over the world and I'm sure all of them don't have access to excellent equipment anyway. So if you decided not to give a demobox to that machine because they are kind enough to be supporting a private demoscene party with a company machine on lone for an evening, that's sad.
