demos under VM?
category: general [glöplog]
Hi,
Has anyone tried running demos under a virtual machine at all? It's justy my pc doesn't support ME or before, so I was hoping to use vmware, or moka5 livcepc to run some of my older demos...
(I think you can get some directx support under these) - was just wondering what the compatability was like...

Most Traction demos run under WINE, or so I've heard. DOSBox runs most old DOS demos.
yep, dosbox, vmware... unfortunately no decent 3d support yet. maybe vmware fusion on mac...
No hardware accelerated GL support in Fusion :(
Yes, you can, it's hit and miss.
WINE IS NOT A EMULATOR! [It's a implimentation of Windows librarys!]
VMs are required to run some older demos on newer pcs. As for running demos on PC VMs, it's hit or miss, the GL/DX demos typically are the ones that don't work due to limited or non-existant support in most VMs. I'm fairly sure software rendered demos will work fairly well though.
And blah blah.
Sure! You can run win 9x in a emulator and see how it goes. As long as the demo doesn't require any 3D acceleration, it should be fine.
