Move to the Far East, where I recently discovered you can take as much hand luggage as you can carry, and they don't give a shit what you've got in it. The 25 euros was so that they would put the HAND luggage into the cargo. It is a fine. The normal price is like 10E (which is still a rip off). In other words they charge you for cargo luggage anyway. But if you tell them before hand (like, when you buy the tickets) then they only charge 10E.

zest: I'm trying to figure out how the hell to get the fan cover out. Maybe the whole thing needs to get off (with all the screws off). But I know that once I do that, with my luck, one million springs will put up and run down underneath my floorboard. And then the card will be fucked for eternity.

When I came back from Japan with three bottles of alcohol I bought from duty free shops, I couldn't keep then as hand luggages because I had to take another flight at Frankfurt. They put them into the cargo for free. I still don't know if it was free because it was the Lufthansa or if it was because they were Japanese (my opinion is that it's the latter).
About the card my guess is that if you fuck up the fan, you can put another cooling system in replacement. But then it won't be a free card anymore. Maybe all of this is a message from the ancient gods about you going to the Breakpoint :D

That's so true, on inland flights in China you can even bring bottles of water with you in your hand luggage, it's totally amazing!
