Haujobb - Name abuse ?
category: general [glöplog]
Not really .. since this name has been mentioned first in "Bladerunners" ;)
But -
http://www.metropolis-records.com/?artists/haujobb.html
sounds quite familiar to the style of music used in Haujobb demos. (I found+got a audio-cd in some small shop recently.)
Or are some Haujobb people are even involved in that project ? Wouldn't be that surprising at all.. ;)
i'm speechless. it's not that this is known for years. =)
WTF ... there is a band with same name?
And you, Dalezy, knew about it and never told me?

*big smile*
Hehe, haven't you people noticed this before? Trust me, there are other demo groups with names that also appears as band names.
Haujobb, the synth band, are quite boring though.

Which suits the name I guess, the demo group are quite far from _not_ boring as well.
+tss+ germans +tsss+
It confused a few friends of mine years ago - since when was their beloved band making those silly demo thingies all of a sudden? :)
aaand welcome to the distant past, our host for today is... defjam! *applause*
tobi, i might have hurted your feelings, so i better left it unsaid.
i think now it's time to tell you about agnostic front aswell :)

dalezy: oh, come on. everybody knows that it's a fake by defjam; the band doesn't exist! :)
I wonder when he'll discover the elitegroup name abuse. ;)
agnostic front kicks ass \m/
is there a demogroup called like the synthband haujobb? !!!
There's a story behind the Haujobb name, and the coincidence of the band having the same name is not without a reason. XXX told me the story once, but also asked not to publish it. Another mistery for the history of the scene.
Anyway, do notice that there are other groups with names of bands, and also persons. Examples? Biohazard, Prodigy, Skid Row, or we can point out that the founder of Skid Row was called Metallica. Also, Fairlight is a "ripped" name, it is named after a famous synthesizer brand.

I think most groups share their name with something, either because it's a common name, or cause the name means something (like haujobb), or cause the group liked the band or at least it's name.
My handle came about that way, there was a song called 'phuture sonics' which got shortened to psonic, then an e got added for some reason... I think it was something like somebody misspelled it on irc, and somebody else said it meant 'piss on ice', and somehow it stuck.
And strange too, my friend goes under the handle 'phreax' :)

Don't forget KLF.. twice!
Not sure if EMF counts, since they went by their full name much of the time.
Damones.. Ramones?

KLF was Keen Like Frogs. Don't know what the band's name was, or was it an abbreviation at all, but I don't think KLF has ripped their name, it looks more like a coincidence.
also, everybody knows that Hornet is a basketball team.

And I thought, it was ripped from an old speccy/c64(?) game with the same name.

Oh, and don't forget about the lot of smash designs demos with names taken from bands (typ o' negative, enigma, project pitchfork), song titles (our darkness), movies (scream, event horizon) and even cigarette brands (west light).
The demos with names from song/album titles are too numerous to count.
Tomcat, regarding the HJB name: is this the moment where we're supposed to offer bags of riches for the story?
KLF was also Kosmic Loader Foundation (later changed to Kosmic Free Music Foundation). I joined it in mid '94. The existence of two KLF scene groups was coincidence (they were on different sides of the world), but come on, tell me Keen Like Frogs knew about KLF and didn't pick their name out of thin air. :)
I think the band KLF's name stood for 'Kopyright Liberation Front' but I remember reading somewhere that they changed what it stood for every two minutes. Incidentally, what does Haujobb mean?
