What got ya in to the scene
category: general [glöplog]
I went over to a friends and heard this computer of his saying "continue continue continue" Many thanks to Einklang for the medium demo that changed my mind about graphics, Now where did I read that Einklang is a professional VJ crew? I know I saw it some place.
Hmm.. For me it was probably Chris Hülsbecks Soundmonitor on C64 in 1986 :D
c64 cracktros, and I saw a c64 demo i've never seen again in some computer class i went to... I was like 6 years old, and didn't know what the "big guys" were looking at, just that it was cool... The first demo i
actually had a copy of was "in memoriam"
a few years later we found demos on the cds of computer magazines, and then forgot about them again for a while... And then in 2000 I was looking for 2nd reality on altavista, when I got to ojuice.net and saw that there's a hungarian party coming up...
so about 10-12 years after i saw my first demo, i actually got to a party too :)
btw i'm still looking for that c64 demo, i remember only one scene, that had a golden lion like image with wings maybe, a scroller underneath, and the music was "when will i be famous". Maybe someone remembers...

Ex-boyfriend was a member of Jumalauta and dragged me to Assembly 2001 - didn't get the clue there, though. Then in the end of 2001 I moved to Helsinki, got together with nosfe and went to Mekka 2002. I guess that was the turning point.
I'm still on the stage of learning, watching people code, doing music and graphics, trying to do something similar by myself but I think it'll take years to get something professional done. Well hey, I have time.
Wish that MSX which I had when I was 6 would still work :)

iblis/psonice - strange things happen to those boxes - i clearly remember someone praising the speed (of the server) - whatever!
PHT is a group
Raverosa
Nice..the server went up to 12kb/S :)
Some pretty dope stuff you have there (bionet), though im more into the strictly floor orientated bizniz.

Thank you 1001 Crew ...

Well I knew the presence of the scene through various cracktros and demos for my C64 and later Amiga 500. I was only interested in games though and it took me until I absorbed the Assembly 2k releases to get my ass up and found our group. Productions that really made me join the thing completely included Nonstop Ibiza Experience by Orange, Art by Haujobb and Maturefurk's infamous Lapsuus.
iblis, hey some of these tunes are certified floorfillers over here =) in any case - drum'n'bass scene in Latvia is pretty strong and growing day by day. u gotta check out these guys in action @ PHAT3 somewhen soon =)
cracktros, so games...
I entered the scene by hearing the sysun soundtrack 604 then squish.
Raverosa... really? then i guess you scene differs a bit from the other european scene. But i only reckon that is a good thing.
Do you know how well tunes like:
J majik 24hrs
tali - high times
Pendulum - trails of sevens
Go down in latvia scene?

I came into the scene, because I like Computers and gays. So the scene is a perfect place for me. ~_~
by capitalizing the first letter of Computers, are you perhaps referring to a new generation of computers, so intelligent and independent that they have adapted the name all for themselves and demand to be treated as an individual race - the Computers?
Computors not Computers!!
iblis: i know these by name but cant recall how the tunes sound like - but i'm not that deep into d'n'b scene anyway - few of my favs are paradox, klute and teebee
my story is a bit like elend's, except that i like lesbians, not gays. that's also why i moved to finland, to meet all the scene lesbos there.
Lesbians are no fun. You want bisexual girls. Move to wales.
Got a copy of Second Reality and Crystal Dream 2 among the usual batch of games around '93. Showed it to everyone eventho' noone had any idea what is this, but hey I had a GUS so it ruled.
Then aroung '97-'98 I got a huge bunch of magazine CD-s and I started watching the demos that were occasionally on them, and I suddenly started tor recognize what's this all about. Then came an article in an IT-leaflet about the scene which had an URL (www.demoscene.hu), which had another (flag2002.flashdesign.hu), and there was I, thinking "Hey. I HAVE to get to that party!!!"
So I showed it to one of my computer-enthusiast friends (now known as Procyon/ÜD), he said he's interested as well, so we found out it would be cool to have a group as well (we didn't even have anything to release :)), so we founded this very small group called Ümlaüt Design, and we even had our first release on FLaG2002 (raytrace placing 4th, w00t!)
I guess that was the top of the slope, or so.

Reed: Nah, I am just used to the german grammar. ~_~
i know, i was just desperately trying to be funny :)
some people just never learn :))
It was 1998 I think when I got into demoscene after seeing some incredible PC-demos. To name a few: 303 by Statix&Vic, Matrix by Fulcrum, Tribes by Melon&Pulse, Second Reality by FC, Robotnik by Rage, Stars by Nooon, Megademo by Orange and -- last but not least -- the other ones I have forgot :) I was totally amazed by demo code and art! How could this be possible and real-time!? From that on I wanted to become a serious graphics programmer like Statix -- to learn the hidden ways of a democoder. The burning ambition!
Very much thanks to the people who've made great demos in the past. You've set me on fire and made my life -- umm -- more interesting :)

My friend Matty showed me TBL demos and it took me about a year for it to hit me. I think I got back into the scene after finding a link to PAiN diskmag on the fruityloops site.
I remember when I first saw Stash and Jizz I was like, "what the fuck? jizzing clown?" But TBL is not a bad way to start, I think. Damn talented bunch. Matty was into demos for the right reason, technique, and I think I get a bit into the design demos, but why not make things look nice? The scene in Jizz where you zoom in on the gold ball and the filter cutoff and res change will always own!
