Probably many reasons:
"Typical" demoscene music is electronic, maybe due to the fact that anything else was impossible in the beginning.
Rock/Metal is much harder to produce. It actually takes some effort to get certain licks/rythms super tight. When you make electronic music with good samples, you can be 100% certain that the sound quality is always "perfect", and you can do loads of changes to the music in *realtime*, instead of having to build a homestudio and record takes (which is expensive). Guitars (especially singlecoils) and their periphals are pretty noisy (unless it's my super-shielded yellow banana guitar!), which also leads to diminished sound quality.
Also, you would have to learn to actually play (at least) guitar :O

(Husker Du - Zen Arcade; Voivod - Nothingface; Public Enemy; everything; KRS-One (and BDP) - EVERYTHING; Short Music for Short People (101 punk bands from the Mr. T Experience to Anti-Flag to the Ataris to Chixdiggit); The Dead Milkmen - Big Lizard in My Back Yard; Johnny Cash - Live at Folsom Prison; Social Distortion; Live at the Roxy (and somewhere between heaven and hell and mommy's little monster and white heat white light and... everything) ; The Replacements - Hootenanny, Tim, Pleased to Meet Me, but especially their last album 'Don't Tell A Soul'; George Clinton - Computer Games; with the caveat that AIN'T NO PARTY LIKE A PFUNK PARTY CUZ A PFUNK PARTY DON'T STOP. and once you have absorbed Atomic Dog you should immediately seek the nearest mothership where you may be able to behold the wonder of Maggotbrain live. Maggotbrain is a must hear, but you should experience it LIVE.
You should also do that after hearing Lords of Acid - Lust. Preferably not in the same week or sensory overload may occur.

(Yes. I just listed Alt.Metal, Funk, Punk, Alt. Country and Rap. There is absolutely nothing wrong with loving music.)
