What is the first cracktro?
Being a former C64 boy I could only think of GCS cracktros which date back to 1983/84 and already had some animation in them. But obviously there must be even earlier intros. Currently the earliest cracktro filed and dated on Pouet is by The Pirate for the Apple II, as pointed out by hitchhikr. Do you know of anything before that?

Cracktros are an invention of the PC newbies. Oldschoolers on CBM 64 and Amiga have had intros in front of their releases.
RRR: indeed, I don't remember people using the word cracktro back in the days, on both Amiga and Atari.

Indeed, in the old days we called "intro" the piece of code introducing a crack, a menu, whatever... Never heard about a cracktro back then. If I am not mistaken, "intro" now means a short demo, which is puzzling since an intro should introduce something !

Everyone here and now knows what a cracktro is, it's an intro before a game. How does calling it whatever it was called 20 years ago help identify one? We're not sending somebody back in a time machine to make enquiries right?

in my day, we called a demo a "watchy"! and we draped doilies on our monitors, which was the style at the time..
