A simple idea : Why we don't create servers to put all not-used prods (i mean gfx, code, music, ...) to help all each others for creating better prods ? Why competition between sceners exists ? Why all sceners don't work together ? Why demos, who should hurt the commercial prods, are so poor ? Why are we all lamers ? Why demoscene sucks ?
The prods are free, which means that the compet should be free-prod against notfree-prod, and not sceners against sceners.
Why demoscene sucks ?
... why i suck ?

The scene is dead in my head.
Competition spirit, it's a bad thing but a necessary thing too !
Without competition, no performance.
No performance, no good demos.
No good demos, no scene.
Sad but true !

Escuse me, when i have wrote that, I was thinking to the Unix world.

It is a idea, but how can You prolong it?
...if i had a decent effect for every time someone came up with this "magnificent" idea, i could win demo compos for living...
as nicky said this thing is about competition.
See: fr made a very cool intro tool, but they didn't put it into some publicly available server.
now Conspiracy has a tool on their own, and they compete.
and lot of other people do it too.
Look: don't take away the joy of creation, and being an arrogant bastard because someone is better than someone else from the scenere with such an idea.
That might work in the linux world, but the linux world sucks too.

coding an os is a different thing.
if all democoders would try to make the technical best demo (like all linux-coders are trying to make the best os), opensource and gpl would be the right choice.
but this ain`t the (primary) goal, and so everybody should try to keep his treasures for his own (releasing source some time later is a good thing i think).

because we are better than you, Bouga ;)

I think that each group should have a tmp directory in their website that contain some unused prod (gfx, zik, effects, ...) and who can be used by everybody just by sending a little mail to the demogroup (and to "greet" the one who make it, sure), and the source code should be present in all demos/intros.
What do you think about this ?
Oups, and for the competition, why do you think they'll be no competition using these methods ? The prods should be surely better, and the competitions will rock.
This is just a little idea.

start an unemployment office for sceners.
i don't think its a good idea. People would just get lazy, and use the effects others have made. And the incentive to make your own kick-ass new effects would be less, because everyone could use them, and your effects would not stand out from the crowd anymore.
Competition is what drives the scene forwards, groups competing to make a demo that is better than everybody elses, and trying to do something new.
But it would be nice if groups would release the source code for stuff they don't intend to use, and for stuff that is out of date. Eg. if farbrausch is now using version3 of their nice intro tool, releasing v1 would not give the competition much advantage :) And it would allow new coders to learn the basics faster, and would mean more demos get made too - look at the effect demopaja had. (ok, some lame excuses for a demo get released, but there are some nice ones too ;)

Demopaja needs more plugins I say then everyone can make demos and show their ideas. Everyone says its lame and stuff but the fact of the matter is this......it gives non-coders chance to express their ideas and it will mean we have a lot more fresh demos and not so much boiring stuff from coders who dont have any ideas of their own.
coz u do
