Don't have sound here, but it looks boringly uninteresting.

As long as they do decent stuff.
2 of those guys are from Sweden, home of the best chip musicians in the world, so they must know what they're talking about.
i beg to differ, names like galway and hubbard don't sound exactly swedish!
Two are Swedish, one is Scottish and the other is Argentinish, er, Argentinian.
Hubbard and Galway don't do a decent chiptune for like... 20 years.
eh. names i never heard. i was waiting for turbo leet nitro2k01 but he wasn't there. too bad. they even mention ASSEMBLER DEMOSCENE. lol. it's like cool coz chiptunes are like. cool.
utterly boring "interview"
There is something that occurs to me whenever I think about people these days doing music on "old school" platforms like C64 or 4 channel mod.
It seems at the time, (ie. the 80s), doing a song for C64 or Amiga wasn't "gimmicky", it was actually just the best available way for many musicians to actually express their ideas. If someone was essentially a musician, with musical ideas that were important to them, they would choose C64 or Amiga to express those ideas, because those were the best options. So you get amazing classics like Space Debris by Captain, Alibi by Laxity, or Face Another Day by Jogeir Liljedahl.
These days, the focus for people doing chip tunes or mods is either to show off what they can accomplish with those limitations, or it's to give themselves a kind of excuse to hide behind in case the song doesn't turn out that great. But, generally speaking, musicians will no longer try to express their best and most important ideas into a .sid or .mod.
OTOH, the new .mods and .sids might be better in terms of technique, because the authors have so many more years of experience, and access to much better tools.

point taken. now show your .sid or .mod tunes, you got me interested now. :)
Martin Galway once said he didn't understand the hype of all these c64 remixes. He made the music on a platform that couldn't do better than that, but if he had had the means to make it better sounding, he would have used it.
"better" sound is always subjective, to me Atari YM sounds better than (deadly boring) game tunes by Jeremy Soule.
Hmm.. the meaning didn't really come over correctly. He didn't understand why people would remix his music from c64, since it was specifically made to meet the sound quality of the c64 and if he would have had better means, he would have used it.
... and add to the mix that Bob Yannes never really liked his creation :)

i bet that the outcome would be super cheesy with a lot of reverb on 1992 sounding digital synth pads. i'm always disappointed whenever i hear full production music from those classic c64 composers
i'm with linde here.

ASSEMBLER DEMOSCENE
it was only a matter of time before emo-tech-indie-dorks (tried to figure out how to call 'em) took over and started causing media exposure
i think 'indie-geek-hipsters' is the term you are looking for. Faggots that like chiptunes because they sound like the bleepy bloppy music from the NES.
"it's a videogame, idiot!'
"it's a videogame, idiot!'
"on another note.." (hihi)
how about my soundtrack? ;-)

okkie: there's a certain truth in that galway's often quoted saying, as his c64 music tends to be very tightly arranged to meet the sid's limits, but mostly it's just musicomystico-hogwash.
electric guitar echoes in several of his tunes and so does his synth-teasing contemporaries. he also covered movie themes and pop songs. I don't see why it couldn't happen the other way around.
remaking his music "as it is" with "better" equipment is another matter, and I think galway was refererring to that. most people remixing his sids are just making their casios imitate galway's originals.
and kill 'em emo-tech-indie-dorks/indie-geek-hipsters!

only reason why to make chiptunes is to get perform some shitty art-show with few girls and pretend that you are an artist ?! woah. and those chiptunes sound like shit (which svenzzon/titan would compose!) at least there are good composers like huoratron ;D
What is it about this concept of "limitations" that always comes up when talking about old technology? Is your thinking somewhat, eh, limited?
I've always thought SID and other classic soundchips as INSTRUMENTS, not as packages of obsolete limitations. Different types of instruments have personality in how music is made with them and how they sound like.
To me, remaking SID songs "with better equipment" means more or less the same as remaking them with sounds that are cheesier and more boring.
