We can have:
2xPokey=8 stereochannels...
Covox=DAC
1024kb simm expansion... (next 4096kb)
Sio2sd=SDcard expansion...
MyIDE for Compact Flash Adapter...
Pc Mouse via adapter...
USB Cartrige (Usb Key,Mouse,Gamepad...)
65816 with 20Mhz...
VideoboardXE (384x256,65536,lot of sprites=>blitter)...
LAN and INTERNET browser...
Like old Windows GUI...

Can You imagine "next" demos on such "8bit" mashine???

...
@ scout > You are from Farbrausch or Haubjobb or Kolor ,Conspiracy???
I see good demos.

You are right COMANKH I had C128 and AMIGA600 in the past...
But now ATARI 130XE and 32bit too...
Commodore vs Atari war is nonsense in 2008...
Only lamers do war...
I have lot of good C= friends...
And Atari too...
@tinctu: There was never a war. The C64 had no competitor but a lot of underdogs around. Muhahaaaahhaaaa... come on, come on, let's code it out! ;)

The c64 is only superior in the sound department, best 8 bits for that.

So. To summarize this for me: Who has the bigger dick now?

its unfair to compare XL 320kb demos to c64 ones. Desert Dream c64 instead of using extra ram does load and show effects at the same time==speed loss, and its not the only demo doing that on the 64. we do it on the original HW, you dont. period.

I never knew the original C64 HW had a 1541. You C64 freaks should spread your stuff as type-in! :)
@Grimmy: Now you're getting away from the topic. A C64 without a screen is worthless, too. Without the original drives both systems couldn't be used seriously. The thing is to use a stock C64 and a stock Atari. The Atari owned the faster CPU and had some advantages with colours etc.. the C64 is more powerful in some corners coz' of the good peripheralchips like the VIC or SID. The interesting question is why the Atari was never so famous as the Commodore was. I have both of em' and I love em' equaly. But, the C64 is way more interesting for me. Don't ask me why. This even happened afterwards between the Amiga and the ST. Maybe it's just curious how far you can get without any Hardwareextensions. Just one further example: an Action Replay Cardridge has more or less become absolutely Standard (or the RR). But nearly no one uses the 8KB RAM of it. It's there and it's even allowed to use on Party like Breakpoint f.e..

An Atari User would say "go on, solder yourself 256kB RAM to see my demo". A C64 would say "I have to solder for a demo? Fuck you". ~8]

Oswald, the Atari 130 XE with 128kb is original hardware. And it is not comparable to C64->C128 differences. period. Why don't you accept the fact, that using memory expansions is nothing illegal? Understand finally that the 8bit Atari is simply not able to play music (fully) while loading. C64 productions against Atari productions simply are not comparable at this point.

Since ages you are arguing again and again in the same direction. The 8bit Atari memory expansions are and were since the beginning extremely common. The extra ram is used for a large amount of application like development tools, players, gfx applications and so on. all these tools exist since the early 80s. It's a natural part of the Atari 8bit platform like the 1541 is part of the C64 platform. The XL/XE is an 8bit architecture .. yes.. but it was never released to be strictly 64K only..

And now please do me the favor and stop discussing this way. Please don't get me wrong. I highly appreciate the productions of you and your group, but you really get pathetic when it comes to the 8bit Atari memory issue.. :(

twh: Maybe it's hard to accept because with a lot of memory things are used to be more uncomplicated to do, even speed can be achieved easylier (f.e. with speedcode). A C64 with a 4MB REU would be able to do so many things. But, and that's the question a lot of people may ask em'selfes, is it really a C64 anymore? Or let me ask you, without any raggings, why do you need so much memory? Just to compensate a Diskdrive? Of course the atari lacks of some capabilities but to extending it's base is a shame. I had those endless discussions even last year at BP. It will never end. It's some kind of modern PC-like thinking. Getting better hardware if the given is not enough. Where is the border? 320kB? 1MB? 16MB? The fascinating thing for was always to see modern skills on a ancient machine build in the beginning of the 1980s. Doing things in given sizes. The C64 has 16 Colors, the Atari got more... so what? Did we ever try to solder 2 Chips to the higher nibble of our Colorsregisters? We live with the misfeature. It's C64. If we need more color we buy an amiga, or an XL ;) Greets.
