What got ya in to the scene
category: general [glöplog]
Back in 2000 I went to a search engine and just typed Cosmic Simulated Demo and HPLUS was the fisrt thing I saw then using the the links on that site I went to Back2Roots.org and noticed The Fr-08 party version, BOOM !! that did it for me, Now the Scene is like a drug Did I say Addicting ?
My friend told about Please The Cookie Thing Intro,
have loved the scene ever since.

Back in the late 80's - early 90's a few friends had amigas and c64's (i had a pc) and whenever we were playing games i was always more interested in the cracktros in the beginning of the games (i didn't have a clue what they were back then).. Then someone showed me budbrain megademo (the one with the rapping ducks).. A few years later i met some guys in school who were actually thinking of founding a demogroup and they showed me a bunch of (then new) demos like 2nd reality..
I was sold instantly and almost 10 years later i'm still here.

almost the same as uncle-x, just that i went an uncommon way: c64 > amiga > pc > c64 + amiga + pc
i'm here since about 12 years now, with a break for like 1,5 years inbetween.

I always liked cracktros back on c64/amiga, then saw some demos on amiga that got me a little interested (mainly old style rave demos i think). Then i saw budbrain (me too!), and that got me half-way hooked. I collected demos whenever i could get my hands on them (which was rare back in those days).
But I really got addicted by some of the later amiga demos, when design was more important, and the effects started to become more impressive. Things got worse when 3d effects started appearing, and I got hold of some raytracing programs like imagine, and started doing some gfx. Then I got more into the gfx in demos too :)
And, well, been watching demos ever since... Only recently been more interested in the scene though (no scene exists here to speak of, and without internet there's no connection.
And now, after 15 odd years of being into demos, I hope to make my first demo :) Well, next year, I work full time + take a masters degree + have family, so no time at moment. Also, I want to go to 1st party next year too.
Hmm long post, I'm becoming optimus!!! AAARRGHHH!

It all began when me and my older brother got an A500 in late 80's. Both me and he got very interested in those silly one screen scrollers and simple effects, and cool blippy music. We wanted to join this thing called the scene. He grounded some silly group called Zopzap, and I started some silly group called Jump, later rename to The Bright Future and such.. :D Keep in mind that I was only about 9-10 years old back then. My brother joined the scene officially in 1990 or something when he joined as musician to a group called "Twilight", later renamed to "Trash 80".
Anyway, I officially entered the scene (as a musician aswell) when I, back in 1995, joined the group that is nowadays called "Nature".

so, some of you here are quite new, while others are quite vintage (unclex and dalezy seem to originate from the times that youngsters used to be tuning toyota corolla's).
me? 95/96. so about 7 years now.

plek: well.. the first prod we released where i had done anything was in 1994-1995 and my first demoparty was in 1995 so basically i'm quite a n00b as well.. all those spinning logos and starfields just had been there on the background ever since the late 80's...
I had an A500 for playing games, but when my friend copied me a (lame) version of missile command I noticed that the disk also had a few other files.. one was an intro by Vectra which just blew me away (iconvex with static, beautiful music) - and luckily, the other was a diskmagazine, ICE issue #2
The diskmag informed me that there was a whole world full of people writing demos/intros. It even had a contacts section where I found someone named Dan to mailtrade with.
After a couple of months of mailtrading games/demos I noticed there was an upcoming party (Digital Symposium) which I eagerly attended with a disk full of logos I had drawn in DPaint. I showed them around and joined a group named Destiny at that party back in '91.
I dropped out (due to college) around '93 and pretty much abandoned all thoughts of 'the scene' until I picked up an internet connection around '99.
I'm not actively involved anymore (since '93) but I still flirt with the idea of rejoining someday.
I have no idea how most of the active guys my age (30+) manage to find time in their lives...

i got asked to enter the scene because i rocked so much. i mean, i always rocked, also before i got interested in the scene.
you r0xx0red that quatro for real!
The usual way.. Got interested in C64 cracktros, saw a few C64 demos, then saw Red Sector and Deathstar megademos.. "ja loppu on legendaa". Damn, it's almost scary to think I got addicted to demos around the age of 11. And that was 13 years ago..
First demo i saw was Future Shock by the Borderzone Dezign Team, running on a tape-based C64 in 1985. We got the tape from the Independent Compunet Club stand at a Commodore show i think, something like that anyway.
From there, the first real demo i released was in 1987 and the most recent were Presets and my bits of Singles Collection Volume 2 over the last couple of months...

How come, of all the many copied 64 games i had, there was not one single cractro? And never a demo either.
psonice, maybe you copied them straight from the originals? =)
Dalezy: some, yes, others copied from others who had copied from others....
I guess nobody in my town had links to the outside scene (no net, bbs was even too expensive to do :). And if anyone was cracking the games (I assume somebody was, cause some of the games were supposed to be protected), they sure weren't nice enough to make a cracktro too. Lamers ;)

I was broughed into the scenings during 1985 period of things through thedogwolf short before my abducteed buy him in a manor no man can think is good! Whenn i woked up down inside his batcage i was receivde scener and here I am.
Very vague memories. Saw my first Amiga demos some time around '90-'92 (I was about 10 at the time), Mental Hangover being the first demo I can recall seeing (most likely saw some stuff before that, but it's my earliest memory). Not sure anymore how I got my hands on those - at least some of them I got via a friend whose big brother was into the scene at the time.
Only been actively following things and doing stuff for just a few years now, though.

94-95 I'd say. straight to pc, no zx (unusual for russia 8))
Saw some cracktros on my Amiga 500 back in '89, then my curiosity immediately kicked in.
Back in -94 when I started calling to BBS's I took a notice there was one very popular file, downloaded it and saw 2nd Reality by Future Crew running for the first time. After that I went to Assembly 95 to see what the parties were really about, and ever since then I've been addicted to the scene...
Back in 91 or something, I saw this running on an amiga 500 in the local computer shop...
one word:
-[[ CORE ]]-
(cellange of reverse engeniering)

some ACE cracktro on the C=64 and then some magazine in sweden that put demos on the cd with the hornet demoscene faq (that led me to #coders on irc) , and then the rest .....
The usual C64 games disks around the late 80s or early 90s (Fairlight! Dynamic Duo! Eagle Soft! YAY!), a few attempts at making own cracktros (I even cracked the one or other game, but just because I borrowed the originals and wanted to keep a copy, never spreaded anything)...
... then in summer 93 I joined The Obsessed Maniacs. A few meetings and [http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=1532]releases later then my first real demo party: The Party 4. From then on, they had me.
Yeah, a few years later then the bitter insight that the scene sucked ass and that we had to do something to be better or even [http://www.pouet.net/groups.php?which=322]godlike - it just wouldn't be fun anymore otherwise ;)
