The future of pouët.net

Nice! That was fast!
Thanks!
Thanks!
about the watching pics on bbs/posts, there should be a personal setting to change wether you want to see a link or the image :)
Changes are great, especially for the link to add a new thread, where I had to wait the whole threads page at the older times. That took a long..
Inside each thread, I'd prefer to choose how many comments per page I would like, same as in the production comments.
Having the credits in each production, sceners connected to productions, something like what's happening in http://noname.c64.org/csdb would be great, but then I know it would be hard to submit all these infos for the new productions. CSDB is much nicer in this aspect also at the voting system. But it's hard to be done I beleive, pouet engine would have to change..
What else? I had more in mind..
Btw,. glops only for submitions and not for comments is ok for me.

Public syndication is in.
Thanks for the link Optimus, I'll certainly steal some ideas there =)
For example, about the sceners<->prods relation, I always thought of using the actual pouet.net user database. But CSDB has another database for that purpose, that's definitly the way to go. I'll think about it =)

the page splitting sucks big time. you have to run several requests just to read all the comments of a prod or in a thread.
to kick it out again and implement zipped connections would be much cooler, better to handle, a cut down on traffic on every page and as easy as 123.
using image magick to convert screenshots to fit in a 320*240 box or whatever with lossy compression and providing a separate "show full screenshot"-like link would be as easy too and would reduce loading times.
additionally i bet something is wrong with your sql or your database. it is way too slooow for a db that uses indexing, fulltexts, correct tables and queries.

Other things I like about CSDB (that Optimus mentioned):
You can keep adding alternate download url's if they exist.
Every user can change everything (you do not have to email an admin to change an entry). Could this work on pouet as well ?

imagine the mess with such a system, this can't work here due to the amount of idiots.
PigPen I suspect the version of php on scene.org may be already supporting gz compression transparently ...
yes, but this is too buggy to switch it on. doing it manually is much better.
i bet the main reason for slowlieness really is the database layout / querying.
btw: pouet is much faster in ny than in germany :D

what's about this :
an award-icon or sth on the products page that indicates whether the prod got an award or not and if yes which one... like the scene.org awards or the ths awards....

yeah i think the ability for the person who added a product to be able to modify the details of that.. such as download links, sometimes sites go down, or a filename might change...so should be good to be able to update the link ;)
how about letting the members of a group get some control over their prods? f.ex. update them when there's a final.
also add a "sticky" first comment.
f.ex. if we release a final version we'd add a sticky comment at the top noting that so people could see what comments are pre-post final release? or maybe one should stick at just adding finals.

whizzter, but i think that would be too much work to handle for analogue or that certain secret moderator.
i mean, what if there's new people joining and old people leaving in a certian amount of time .. would you like to take care of that for each day? maybe even a special login-option for each group/scener would take alot of time to create and take care of, and i don't think analogue has that much time to spare next to his rl-projects (correct me if i'm wrong =)

I think there should be a thumb button for bbs pages. It wouldn't do anything, but could be fun.
I just witnessed a classic bug. You get 20 posts on a bbs page and the 'next page' appears. You click it and the next page has no posts :-)
For the speed problems, if they are database related, I should remind you that MySQL 4.0.x uses native query caching which should make things alot faster. Especially since pouet's frontpage is so dynamic.

What speed problems? This is one of the fastest sites now the server's been upgraded.
yeah... very fast here...
i would like to have a something so you can sort the demos that a group has done in platform order..
so you know what you can´t run etc etc...
so you know what you can´t run etc etc...
A search function for this BBS would be nice. I am looking for a certain past thread right now, and it will probably take ages to find it now.
Hey, a few more suggestions and why not? :)
1. allowing multiple prod-types for entries, eg. for 4k music disks.. makes no sense to have a separate list for these type of things, but having it appear under two categories would work. the comments would have to be kept together tho... having 2 lists of comments for 1 prod would suck.
2. bonus glops for posting the 1st comment for a prod. Would encourage the glop hunters out there to watch all those old prods... Plus, I always feel a bit sad to see a demo nobody even bothered to comment on...
front243: you can search the site using google, just add site:www.pouet.net on the end of your search if I remember right...

There are multiple prods and groups by the same name which are not the same prod or group :-).
We need a way to distinguish between them other than just the name of the prod/group.
I don't have any immediate thoughts as to how this could be implemented, but I thought I'd toss it into this thread so the idea didn't get lost. (Its probably been stated before too!)

Another idea... some parties have "4K Amiga Demo" and "4K PC Demo" as separate compos. So when you look at the summary results page for a party, there is just listed "4k Demo" and multiple 1st place, 2nd place, etc. entries listed.
Do we want to subdivide the categories in this case?
