is it not possible to make a top 10 even if the voters only have to vote for their top3 in each category? i think 8 is a bit much to be honest, it is a lot of names to remember. I would like to vote for my top3 in each category, but 8 is too much because to be fair i have to go back and view a couple of the productions over etc.. but i always remember my current top 3 by heart
cheers

Afair, you don't have to fill the 10 slots.
ah, ok i just thought i had to because they where there. did i miss some explaning text on the page?
nope, I only remember that from somebody who once asked about it and that's the answer that was given to him back then :)
rightio, cheers Keops :)
good point though, it could use some clarification.. i never really manage to complete all the slots without resorting to real bad namevoting.
yes, you dont have to fill all the slots, your vote will still be counted despite properly adjusted.
adjusted how? shifted down or up? i need to add jumalauta to some bottom slots, if down!
when you fill in the 10 slots you get 10 points for number 1, 9 points for number 2, etc. when you fill in only 3 slots you get 3 points for number 1, 2 points for number 2, etc.
so, if you cant recall any other good enough sceners/prods to fill in the rest, the ones you named count less comparing to other voters.

jumalauta will win the pain charts.

Iblis: I usually enter "Skrebbels" in the blanks I did not manage to fill in ;)

hmm...that doesnt seem fair.
So if I vote:
1.Chaos 2.Smash
And Mr.X votes:
1.Kalms 2.Pantaloon 3.UncleX 4.CurlyB 5.Blueberry 6.Navis 7.Chaos 8.Smash
Chaos and Smash would only get 4 and 2 points from me and Mr.X alltogheter? But CurlyB would have 5 points, even though Mr.X thinks he is "only" the 4th best coder....
If that is your system, you should definitely reduce the number of slots, or have the pulldown things that Eurochart has.
Doesnt seem fair to me.
lol@keops. i bet you do :p
I'm not going to vote anyway, but still, I totally agree with tFt. It just doesn't seem fair towards anyone.
iblis, he actually does.
some time ago, we have set out calls on what voting style system the scene wishes. we set out calls on suggestions on the algorithms and so on.. feedback was close to none - as expected.
tFt: you're right with your complaint. however, this system was introduced because of all the idiots having fake scene-id accounts voting 10 times with different logins for 1. "someone" 2. "somebody". would give 10 x 10 points for "someone" and 10 x 9 points for "sombody" - which doesn't look much more fair either.
currently, it's our aim to adjust and simplify the voting system again for the next issue (not the one we're working on now). less categories, less trouble and a point-count-influence-o-meter depending on how many lines are filled and what not. suggestions and ideas are still highly appreciated since i'm far from being a math/stats/distribution specialist and i'm not familiar with commonly used fair-to-the-max vote counting algorithms :)

I think that voting for 10 places is simply too much. Five would be a lot better and that way your current scoring system would be quite a bit more fair than it is now, IMO.
