What do you want a new Scene.org to be like?
category: general [glöplog]
Also, in a slighly different vein -- if Scene.org expanded its ideas about supporting demoparties, how would you feel about becoming members? (registered members in a registered non-profit cultural organization yields state monetary support, which can be passed on via Scene.org -- sort of like "The Scene.org Demoparty Fund" which people could apply for support from).
I'm not saying we'll do this, it's just one of the suggestions I have gotten when I first started to poke around with ideas for improving Scene.org

gloom: how many members do you need in order to get oilmoney?
Gloom: Despite of the legal threats to that idea, it could be a good one. Might be something those poor-scener-not-having-money-to-go-to-demo-parties could benefit from aswell? I like the social aspect of this idea.
We (the Hungarian Demoscene Association) thinks it's a great idea. The question is: What can we do?

Stay off the internet.
Hyde: It's not quite that easy I'm afraid. :) The first step would be to apply for grants from the Finnish side (The International Scene Organization RY is registered in Finland) for Finnish sceners, and then expand with registered local chapters in different countries, such as Germany (and yes, the oil-rich Norway).
Nutman: Regarding direct personal support - it would probably happen through the party organizers (read: Scene.org grants support to the party, and the party decides what to spend it on / distributes it as needed). Scene.org does not have the manpower to handle such things on a person to person basis.. but yeah, that's also a good idea.
Murphy: It has been mentioned earlier, but Scene.org right now does have forums separated for countries - how do you feel about this? I think it is a good idea with a bad implementation. :)
Gloom: you will be at KG, right? Cuz we need to discuss scenebooth. Obviously that's outside the 'online' aspect, but it is something that needs to be expanded.
Truck: Yeah, me and Svok will be there on saturday. I'd love to discuss scenebooth (and random gibberish as well :)
Just add a Wiki section and you have it all. Just like this one:

I don't think I'm alone in going "Blah, another wiki, so no real content here I guess" every time I'm being linked to one. :)

No, you need government controlled web sites where you can reach out to serious people. Stalin would be proud.

I already expressed my opinion about that to a member of the scene.org staff. Also, in a slighly different vein -- if Scene.org expanded its ideas about supporting demoparties, how would you feel about becoming members? The question is: Would we get discount to watch pixar movies?
Stefan: I think this YouTube video describes your appearance in this thread pretty accurately. :)
xernobyl: While I fail to see the relevance, I'd have to say that the chances of discounted Pixar movie tickets are slim to none :)
gloom: I don't have flash here, only saw the title. Is that you and some of your new scene.org friends during an outreach ceremony?

.
We're having problems getting demo-scene.dk up and running. If it would be possible to make www.scene.org danish for people connecting from a danish ISP (or selectable) and thus make scene.org a danish portal when the user is danish. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but i'll elaborate if someone cares :)
(mail me at rasmuskaae@gmail.com if you care)

stefan: Close but no. The Scandinavian Conspiracy meetings are moved to thursdays, didn't you get the memo?
Rasmus: I get your idea. :) I'm not sure defaulting to regional news and info is such a good idea, but it's not up to me of course so please keep discussing. I'm sure that Scene.org can help out with technology and hosting though.

rasmus: here you go: Danish scene.org :-)
We would also like that customization for portugal too ;)
that's what I meant with what I said. We're lazy to make our own portal :D

Gloom : poor stefan doesn't have Flash, give him a simple picture already ! :)
Sums up the guy pretty well.
Keops: in sweden we have an expression "kasta inte sten om du sitter i ett glashus".
