3/2 Texture mapping

category: general [glöplog]

I remember ages ago hearing about a technique called 3/2 texture mapping (or something similar) which was invented by a member of Nooon. I know this is a bit pointless since the technique will be obsolete now but does anyone know anything about it?

not even nooon knows about it.
You draw 2 polys and say it was 3.

Ooops, sorry, that was Jmagic and it was like 7/1 or so. :)

Interesting one. Wasn't it used in Stars: Wonders of the World for that infamous bee?

No i don't think so, that was a perfectly normal spherical-environment mapped bee....

erhm.. isn't this just the 'blurry*' way of rendering where they skip every third pixel drawn? ifso then i suppose it's not really an invention :-)

  • if you have fullscreen 3d-scenes and only overdraw 2/3 pixels then the leftovers from previous-scenes will give it a blurry look :-)
  • Hmm,. this reminds me of Machines of Madness by Dubius.

I don't think it had anything to do with skipping every third pixel.

why not? that's somewhat what EMF do in Plant.
haven't we all done it atleast once, that isn't such a big issue. try to relax, guys.
err. what was that topic again?
