seel: well.. It doesn't really have anything to do with the game, other than the fact that it is possible to obscure the fact that you're just mirroring moves. If there is a loser of the match, then there is also a winner. If you pit two grandmasters vs one another and insert yourself in the middle without their awareness, then you get the opportunity to both win and lose vs a grandmaster (or draw against two grandmasters, which also looks impressive).

As for the 'counting how many pieces are left on the board' bit at the end, I think he just wrote down the numbers at the end and then swapped the paper from the guy's hand without them noticing. He's good at that stuff.

The real mystery that remains for me is how he won the extra match. I highly doubt that he simply played it with his own chess skills though. As he said, his chess skills are shite.

the safe is cracked by the flaps and the insert
which prevents matches and the pieces from falling out the box whilst still maintaining the traditional matchbox design

one would need to make it to apreciate the design
