scene music stolen
category: music [glöplog]
People seem to confunse stealing with not selling a lot this days.
One thing puzzles me though...
Tempest's site says "This web page is still the only 100% reliable source for comments from me, Janne Suni. Rumours, internet forums and the like are not proper sources if you wish to uphold any kind of standards in journalism. I have no further comments."...
Doesn't that imply that he could tell anything he wants on any internet forum?

This thread is so full of shit and hypocrisy :)
Sceners spend their time stealing ideas, concepts, graphics, copyrighted music, expensive softwares from other people/companies, but as soon as other people steal something from the demoscene, it's the biggest drama ever, all evil and wrong.

I agree with Keops. Crybabies, all of you.
@ Preacher: Proove it.
Yeah, fuckings to all demosceners! Keops is a nice place to start: FUCK YOU ATARIFAGGOT!
keops: However there's a slight difference here. We don't make $$$ out of the things we, the people of the demo scene, "rip". And even our rippers/copiers get busted. See *cough* TBL *cough* prods for instance.
p01: there is no difference whatsoever in the end.
Some guys steal expensive software that costs a lot of money, not paying it, while others steal music and make money out of it. I doubt one category is ethically better than the other one.
The day the whole demoscene stops ripping commercial stuff and uses legal softwares with licences, this thread will make sense. But till then, this thread is a joke and drama queens should STFU :)

"We don't make $$$"
prize money at compos?
prize money at compos?
Hey Keops, how about "two wrongs don't make a right" ?
What knos said.
xeNusion: Prize money at compos is nice when you get some but it unless that's a phat party it barely pays for the travel & accomodation fees. Let alone the time spent by the person who worked on the prod. I doubt there's any professional demo maker.
keops: Fair enough, but do you think sceners, and other "creative" people, can afford the thousand bucks softwares ? Maybe I'm dreaming but I think some of us wouldn't mind paying them ... if we could.

you said that "we dont make $$$ out of it" which is simply wrong.
now youre changing the whole thing into... professional vs unprofessional ripping measured by the amount of money that you earn.

Keops : if MTV had a brand-new video jingle showing one of your intros with some stuff added on top of it, AND without paying you any buck, I don't think you would react the same way.
Yeah great, let's revive this thread again!
xeNusion: By $$$ I meant proffit. We, some times, make a few bucks at a compo but that's a one shot handful of bucks, nothing compared to continuous streams of money made through royalties.
Tempest was using an illegal version of Karsten Obarski's Incredible Soundtracker? Went up to his house and stoled his Soundtracker?
Timbaland is innocent!
so who brought the cheese?
SCANDAL, SCANDAL!!!! YOU KNOW GUENTHER KRAEMER (BLADE RUNNER) THE AUTHOR OF THE COPY PROGRAM FAST'EM? HE IS A THIEF BECAUSE HE USES IN HIS PROGRAM THE ORIGINAL FASTLIGHTNING COPYROUTINES...
What? Some sceners are ripping softwares?

I doubt many photoshop users whould pay 1000€ for the program if it wasn't available the "wrong way".
photoshop v7.0.1 is enuff imho and original (2nd hand) only cost 10x less :P
Xernobyl: this is irrelevant. I don't go steal a car just because I can't afford it. The fact that one doesn't have the money to pay for it doesn't make the act ethically better.
If you don't have the money to pay the licence, you just don't use it. Same goes for warezed mp3's (the "I would never have bought the CD anyway" argument is equally wrong and retarded), 3DS max, Visual Studio and the likes. If you do, it's called stealing and it's just like waht Timbaland did. Not worse, not better.
The amount of money involved is also irrelevant (p01). Stealing 10 dollars is as wrong as stealing 100 or 1000. There is no threashold below which your deed becomes fair.
So the whole OMG-Timbaland-is-all-evil drama is quite laughable :)

"it's like, fractions of a cent!"
Kops does have a pretty valid point though and the whole ripping thing is not so much about money as about exposure. Timbo wasn't very creative ripping off Tempest and didn't give him any credit, this is what fueled me in exposing him on SA, but it's true that some ripped off music under a demo is just as lame as that Furtado track and some people have a complete irrelevant hatred towards anything pop (I'm looking at you OldC64Scener)
