RIP skybax/hedelmae

Eventhough Nutman was overreacting, the demoscene isn't as tight a 'community' as you might think it is..

I see our late night discussions are rubbing off on you. Doesn't help that nutman was an insensitive jerk about it though.

Hey...there were warm feelings in there aswell, mind you.
RIP Skybax.

At least you died in a fight, which means you're qualified for Valhalla.

I don't know him.

RIP. No one deserves death like that.

no matter if we know him or not. he left something visible for sure that live on and so he will be dead physically but not in the digital memories of the scene.

left a legacy of good behind you and you won´t be forgotten... farewell...
I didn't know the guy either, but RIP, fellow scener.

BTW, without meaning to sound heartless, this "dying" thing has got to stop, we've lost a few too many sceners for my liking recently :(

I agree with Nutman's opinion in his first post. I've visited a few message boards where a member died and random people who absolutely didn't know the person in real life started writing things like "May he rest in a better place now", "I'm soooo sorry ;_; RIP", "My prayer and thoughts are with him" and other ignorant or hypocritical stuff. Just like Felice and Gajin above here.

teel and ps obviously failed to understand Nutman's statement and start a completely unrelated personal attack towards him.

Kodoichi: I have no clue who Skybax was, yet I wrote "RIP". One doesn't need to know the person to write or say that, especially when it's a person from a community you care about.

It's not "hypocritical stuff", it's just being human and caring a little bit about others...

well put keops.

demoscene is a community. even if we do now know each other personally, we are connected by a network of friendships all around. i didn't know sybax that well personally, but i do know quite a few people who did know him well, and i am sorry for their loss. and i find it really offensive when someone comes suggesting that it wouldn't be right to partake in the sorrow of ones friends. or ones friends friends.

also, you people should consider the fact that the family of the deceased might quite well be looking around in the net for what people are saying about him, searching for things they can quote during funerals and such.

Hypocritical: "Hypocrisy is the act of pretending to have beliefs, virtues and feelings that one does not truly possess. The word derives from the late Latin hypocrisis and Greek hupokrisis both meaning play-acting or pretence."

Mass Hysteria: In psychology collective hysteria (also referred to as mass hysteria) is the name given to a phenomenon of the manifestation of the same hysterical symptoms by more than one person. It normally begins when an individual shows a hysteric manifestation in front of others who "contagiously" acquire the same symptoms.

I've never met skybax, heard of dkybax or even been knowingly subjected to his work. On a general note I feel ackward knowing that the scene is one member shorter, just as I felt ackward when I read the scene deaths in wikipedia a while ago.

In the long run we just have to face the facts. We, sceners are just as humans as the rest of the world. Our nature is volatile and people leave us all the time.

I can totally understand the people who feel the honest need to express their condolensces and mourning in a forum thread, even if their mementos are going to be exposed to a vast majority who couldn't care less just based on the fact that they had no relation to the person in question.

Personally, I think that if you knew the person the best way of expressing your condolenses and actually making them count, would be to call Skybax family or spouses and tell them of your sorrow, of how his works inspired you and how his legacy is going to live on.

On the other hand I can totally feel for Nutman's rant. It seems that the increased death toll in the sceners rank has produced quite the follow up in mass condolensces, even to the point that it has taken a morbid humorous approach with several obviously fake RIP threads.

Of course I'm not going to throw any accusations at anyone, but I guess each one of us should probably take a moment to think about how honest our RIP to a mourn thread is. Is it an honest at heart expression of sadness? or is it just joining the bandwagon?

In the end, the only thing I can wish is that on what really matters, and that's the living mass still around the scene, to still be around for many many years to come and hope that no other scene member departs for another world any time soon.

Closing up on nutman's analogy, even though I don't really remember who was the first one who said it... "A death is a tragedy... a million deaths are statistics"...

you decided to have a "who's the most angry bastard" compo with nutman?

I don't know who you are to feel the need to judge fake or not RIP... I don't know who you THINK you are to judge if something is feeling sad or not.
honestly, if you remember him .. then grief, i you dont, then have some passion. he was fine person, and if you would known him, you would grief also...

i don't think this thread is going to make skybax rest in peace if he'd be reading it from up there somehow. so could all the home taught moral philosophers please find a different thread to talk about the value of various human lives, so that the rest of us can get back on topic? (reminder: it was "RIP skybax". may he rest in peace.)

Again, this is not as true to form as you wish it to be. Stop saying this.

Commodore and aMUSIC voice my sentiments to a great degree. I never heard of the guy, and I find it ...troublesome to start pretending it's a great personal loss for *me* on the internet, of all places. If you care, get in touch with the next of kin and the people close to him. Posting a "RIP :((" on a message board for the mentally infirm is, in my opinion, of equal value and just as wrong as flamebaiting how you don't give a shit.

There is such a thing as dignity and keeping your big yap shut (this coming from me can be considered pretty strange, I know).

Well, some of us did know him IRL. In fact I hadn't been in any contact with him in many years and actually first time I heard about his death was that someone posted the URL of this thread to IRC.

If you don't know him and don't want to "pretend" anything, can't you just stay out of threads like this or at least not start bashing people about all the "empty sympathies"? I mean it's not a rule that you have to post something to every thread that gets started here...

Now go to to the other thread to continue this crap and leave this one for the original topic. Ok?

... and you guys even manage to pouetize a thread dealing with a death of a scener. :(

If I die while Pouet is still online, I beg you, please don't open a thread about it!

And I never knew Skybax, but the least I can do is to wish he's on a better place now...
