true and nice words, netpoet.
Very well said netpoet, very well said. I never knew Crest but It's always sad to see people so desperate and completely hopeless with their lifes to actually commit a suicide. :(
Hope you're better now Crest. Rest In Peace...

Netpoet, sorry if I got mixed opinion about your post. You're surely right in many aspects of your words but I would point out that there's no help you can get from anybody when you're such in a sickness state.
I can't understand some who tried to help can feel kind of dishearten by this sad event and conclusion...
Though, I didn't know Crest, but committing suicide is formely the conclusion of a mental illness. And mental illness is like any others sickness.
There was nothing more one can do except with a medical follow-up or something.
More precisely, I think those kind of people don't want help. They're on the darkest side of their mind and most of the time peoples like that do reject any kind of socialization developping paranoïa (and it includes weird ideas about the surrounding world and such...) and all those kind of funny things no one would never ever approach. Hopefully, they sometimes have some nice thoughts and occupation as a kind of weak pillar in their -poor, what they think it is- life.
On the other hand, I happen to know they easily lose interest even when it was a strong and devoted occupation. Their darkest thoughts and ideas are still there like if nothing positive could overcome the negative side which is growing on them more and more at the time goes by.
You said it all. It's about sickness and it's like any other kind of sickness. Some ppl have a illness and will continue their life normally after one single cure while some others will need to get the same cure for years that won't avoid a lethal conclusion.
I'm afraid it sadly ain't about choice. Our midst couldn't do nothing except being there and existing. Those things he obviously liked.

But after reading his life part on his website i have a bad feeling. Some say it can shine some light light on it. I don't know. Whathe say is some stuff i've already heard a lot of time, but from people wich have a way too express it. If you have some political felling you can't express then on the demoscene. Really. You can always work on some some produkt wich is blaming so or so the society, but it's hard to express what you really feel. somme times you don't have the technical skills for this, but most of the time you can't say what you want. I don't know if i'm true but after reading this life text from him and some stuff on this thread (i haven't known him, only spoke really quick in s&m 2001). For what i know it was always hard to say some extrem though about the society on the scene. I really don't know what was his really bad thought or why he commit this. When i now know he was on berlin i don't know why but i have this feeling i have meet him (it's not the right word i know but i don't know how to say i'm qui sure ich habe her getroffen/gesehen kurz schnell in u oder s-bahn) this past year in the city. It don't help, for sur, and some of you can blame me for this longness of nothing, but it remin me on thought the emtyness on socialfight on the scene. There is some ideas you can't say in a demo or on demo party nowdays and it doesn't help. We don't all see the society good or better, but we can always fight for our ideas. It's better than nothing.
After all i second scamp.
Crest, rest in peace, and let's hope heaven for you will be a never-ending demoshow to enjoy.
And mine too.

Well the first thing I remember concerning the scene was sitting besides Crest at Dialogos 01 and the last thing I remember was playing JCO's Pong game with Crest at Evoke 07, heavily drunk and losing big time.
In retrospect I once again feel regret for not having said or done one thing or another. Concerning Crest more directly: nor was he a friend of mine nor someone I could somehow look up to, but he showed persistency and great love for the scene by his actions and that is something he should be credited for big time. I hope that his memory can at least teach us something about ourselves and how we might approach scener colleagues and the rest of the world, might they be easy or rather difficult persons such as Crest surely was.
I will not say rest in peace nor will I think about reunions in scene heaven. I truly want to say tough that I want to thank Crest for having been part of the demoscene. The word "demoshow" will never sound the same...

Thats very sad news... Rest in peace :(
I still remember when he offered the "crest" domain name to the C64 demo group Crest because he had so much respect for them. RIP crest.
sad news :(
catch ya somewhere/sometime, crest.

OMG, Crest, that was such a stupid move. I'll always remember you and the help you gave me for the Freax project.
what netpoet said.
It's better loosing someone by commit suicide instead of a car accident or sth like that. At least, he made a choice. If he's somehow happy with his choice, I wish him good luck at the other side.
but there is probably no other side.
no more demoshow :-(
I remember crest back through the years and it feels strange.
goodbye crest

@Zest: Your comment reminded me a quote from a stupid & funny Hollywood movie.
- Just because you can't see something doesn't mean it's not there.

Skate: every lifeform has a beginning and an end in our universe, see any living organism. the human being is just an advanced form that can think, no big deal, that doesn't make him so so special that he should get a special post-mortem treatment... seriously, be logical and real :p
or else people would end at killing each others to decide which master of the post-mortem world is the best, but that's just science-fiction, isn't it ? :-)

there is no post mortem, zest. from a individuals perspective, there is just altering states of consciousness :) comprehension is not required.

What's with all the suicides?
Unfortunately suicide is a major cause of death among young people (next to car incidents), so it's not that surprising.
