What feature would make you buy an ipod?
category: general [glöplog]
Sd card slot for the memory with 32+ gigs of adressable memory and a 3+mp camera with a xenon flash(or some other equivalent or better technology) is what it would take for me to camp outside the apple store for a month.
Trollity troll troll.

i bought an iPod Video last week and I must say I am very happy with it; listening to my choice of music (and the occasional p/v/odcast) in the train and at the office.
IMO, it doesn't need more options.
Where's the SDK btw? ;)

Ogg support and the ability to view it as just another mass storage on your computer without any additional software. Which I why I bought a player that has those and is better in a lot of other aspects too :p
ipods suck
@dila: mine doesn't. i've held it against a pile of dust for almost half an hour... no go :-/
let me know when it breaks.
you're just jealous!!!!!!111
Why would you need an SD card slot when you have a 60g HD?
no way. i owned an ipod once - it broke after six months, and apple replaced it with one that looked like it came off the production line backwards. so i ditched the ipod for a sony psp, which isn't designed to break.. and i've had it for just under two years.
I dont know, i would not like to get caught with a PSP in a public place. May be ok when you are 14, though..
I'd enjoy an iPod if I wouldnt need crap installed on my computer to get it working.
What teel said. I couldnt believe they didnt have OGG support. I thought Apple was supposed to be ahead on some thing. :/
gargaj: I think you can replace the apple-os with linux and skip itunes then.. but I am not sure that is neccesarily a better solution.
None, I just don't get all the hype over iPhones/iPods, especially considering the price of the iPhone.
Look I have an iPhone I am so elite, those $600 were really worth it!!!
Still, respect to Steve Jobs for being so clever at using people's thirst for trendy technology-design devices.

"what feature would make you buy an IPHONE"
God i feel like a baffoon. Should i start another thread or something?

Stelthz: that's not necessarily a good sign for hardware, now is it...
I can understand the lack of OGG support (no DRM), but seriously, fucking iTunes?

who needs fuckin' iTunes? there are enough replacements already (ipod owner for three years now and never installed or started iTunes ONCE)
kb: do you have some pointers? I'd love to get rid of itunes.. Never bothered searching for software though.
emperor: i'm using http://mlipod.sourceforge.net/ on my (t)rusty G4 ipod and never had problems.
It's especially neat that it can download from the iPod with the click of one button and transcode everything that the ipod can't play on the fly while uploading, so a hard disk full of oggs or flacs isn't an issue :)

btw, gargaj: the ipod supports mp3 which also has no DRM facilites built in. That can't really be the reason.
I think that the lack of ogg support stems from one little fact: Neither Apple themselves nor 99% of their customers need it.

kb: Thanks, looks interesting!
@Emperor: well that's just it. you pay the price to look cool.
i know about mlipod (i think it's even built in to winamp now), but question remains, why does one need software for an mp3 player? whatever happened to mass-storage devices?
as for the DRM, i know that mp3 has none (let's disregard the copyright flag), but it's still a proprietary format, while OGG isn't. of course, the lack of interest is obviously a greater issue, but assuming they want larger markets, supporting more formats would widen that? I mean, duh, they support AIFF and AAC, as well as PNG for pictures...
No SID support, no SNDH support, no MOD support, no XM support, no S3M supporm, no IT support...
