to keops; well, 30 minutes ago I was thinking "searching for ra" was a bad idea... but actually it may be a really great idea: I've heard "the rumor" for more or less 3 persons in 10 years, who were not close to him. and knowing how ra liked to make the "salvador" makes him a perfect target for these kind of syd-barret-like rumors. (he is gone in his dead, bla bla bla). And actually, he may have been disconnected from the scene * because * of this rumor.

Hempest: Sorry i disagree. Many people were hiding the real origin of their pictures. Many "no copy" pics where the author claimed an original work, were in fact copies. Thats what i meant. If i copy a japanese paintbrush picture it is quite some work when i use it as an reference and i do not scan.
Fair enough to get some honor for doing stuff like that technical well.
But hiding the original and saying it is all from ones imagination is a different thing.

For me, money and stuff did not count much, but the illusion to deal with real genious artists was shattered at some point, when i started to do gfx on my own and looked around what others did (like Royo etc.).

Still the difference for me is if someone honestly shows the refernces (fotos etc.) if asked about his work, or acts like he is a gfx wonder.

i heard that ra took lsd at asm. but thats just rumour, and many sceners taken lsd anyway. i think he worked in both rayman series as artist

and we do have barti/nooon here .. maybe he can tell more

The zaac 16 colors serial from 2001... I know the guy, JSYK, it was all done on deluxe paint pixel per pixel. He used photo "elements" as models, without scanning. It plays a bit with pixeled tint digressions.

the dog head was from cougar, also in sanity. It was very spread around 1993. I remember having some ASM tutorials (from chaos?) where the dog pic was used as example...

Zaac was one of the most underated artists in the scene! His design for Grafikal Jihad is still among the best I've seen today.

Cougar's dog picture was taken from a Tankard album cover (Hair of the Dog - 1988)

You may also notice the green creature, it was later used by RWO/Kefrens in a demo i cannot remember right now...

That green thing was also drawn by a c64 scener called Rayden which I remember seeing at x96. I think he turned it into a gremlin though.

That 16 colour stuff from Zaac is seriously impressive btw!
