The future of pouët.net

category: general [glöplog]
I'm starting a new thread coz I'm l33t...

Last week I made a full replication of the website @home, it's not that but there are a lot of files, pretty slow to transfer.

This week I catched up with the mailbox, 300+ mails done with teh help of stil. There is like 10 important mails left about the pouet engine, I keep those for the next time I'll work on pouët. pretty soon, I'm addicted again

Here are the main features I'm working on:
- more modo tools and more modos, I'll post an AD when I'll start recruiting, join the army NAOW§§§
- XHTML/CSS the html code sux, I can't look at it, I think it got hacked by some frontpage lover in 2k2.
- Review of the slowness, it sucks, and the scene.org servers rulez... I'll rewrite the pages.
- Password change, I'm bored =)
- XNFO export, this is cool and needed, I'll write you back man.
- Popups, flash, JS, Java and .net all the way, we are in 2k3 !
- Fock I'll redo it from scratch !

please fix the errors.
I'm pretty certain aNa|0Gue was serious about popups, flash, JS, Java and .net. He fully realizes the important need to have something pouët.net glöppers can constantly complain about.
Hey Analogue...
It's really GREAT to see you back here!!!
I really hope that you'll get all those requests, bugs, needs from all the _serious!!_ users (or better _sceners_ !!) done and fixed in the very near future then finally!!!

Looking forward to see the first moderators caring about the page here as well in a professional way..and keeping fake-prods away...as well as keeping the scene-site up for the cool future of the the WHOLE scene then again!!

Crossing my fingers for that for sure! And hope that you really MEAN your return here now... And stay here to kick pouet's ass alive and kickin' again... ;-)

And if you need any help...please don't hesitate and write me a short note...
I'd be glad to help you and this site out for sure!!

Bye,
Weasel

But please test it on several different browsers, and preferably on other platforms. I use Linux regularily and I am sure other does as well, not forgetting that there probably are a few die-hard Amiga users here as well.

The current pouet system is perfect for me.
I hate popups :P

weird idea here: how about having a complete pouet frontend? I mean a program that you download and install on your pc and then it just connects to pouet dbase and manages searches, comments and whatnot... no browser compatibility problems, no need to waste bandwidth on heavy html code... even more, make it open-source and let people code the stuff they need themselves... ignore by nick, search by comments, filter pictures from bulletin boards with a single click... all those 'wanted features' people were talking about can be implemented by people themselves, while pouet itself remains as a 'data storage place'...
eh?

that would require downloading/installing that frontend on pc's everytime you want to check pouet. not a big deal probably, but still, not as immediate as a website.

do you download/install your browser each time you open a website? :)

I also think that this frontend idea isn't bad but probably easier said than done ;)

But more important is to remove those dickheads which are only here to post crap or spread their porn trash.

I think the site is cool as it is. It's the lame users, picture links and fake prods that need sorting out.
added on the 2003-03-17 00:31:45 by Wade Wade
as long as you are not doing the sorting, fine. i hate thought police.

The problem with that interface program would be compatibility with different OSes, which is a bigger issue than browser compatibility problems...

Lovely combo of opinions there. :)

I'm way up there agreeing with the xhtml/css business, but the moment you lay a finger on js or flash for pouet, I'll personallly come over to kick your ass, analogue ;)

hate to be the one to suggest that, but maybe
pouet could offer webservice implementations,
so anybody can do dedicated clients to it.
(like google's doing)

:that would require downloading/installing that frontend

downloading/installing the frontend once on every new pc is no big deal imho, especially considering that it can help to save bandwidth later on... besides, frontend doesn't mean that the web part of the site will have to go. http access should be there as well for access from icafes etc, where they don't let you install your stuff.

:but probably easier said than done ;)

true, but I'd say implementing all those popup/java thingies is not a easy task either. in fact, it sounds like recoding the site engine from scartch.. and if analogue is gonna do it alone, it's probably gonna take a lot of time...

:It's the lame users, picture links and fake prods that need sorting out

that's the point - with frontend you can do the sorting. found a fake prod? fine, mark it as 'fake' and you'll never stumble upon it again. know a user who adds fakeprods, posts pr0n on the bbs and is generally a dickhead? mark him 'banned' and never see a single line from him.

:would be compatibility with different OSes

mostly 2 - windows and linux. both have pretty strong opensource programming movement (esp. linux). more 'exotic' os users will have to do it themselves - or wait. 8)

No frontend please. Some people browse the net from diferrent computers each day(home, university, netcafe's ;), some don't allow to install any programms, others have slow connection..

Welcome back and fix the top/glops ;)
