closed threads does not exist on pouet! thank god! let's get back to posting random images!
Wow, Breakpoint has everything, even a debt collector!
the demoscene is dead.
Will there be fights? I want the figths live on demoscene.tv! :)

If not yet, it will be after DocD has talked eye to eye with every scener in it. ;)
FWIW, threatening the disqualified smash designs members with getting banned from Breakpoint for the next 3 years appears to have helped (unlike asking politely for it for 10 days, which wasn't enough motivation). I'm told they've send back the prizes today. So hopefully on Monday we'll be able to forward the prizes to wamma, the rightful winner of #3 executable music oldschool.
Hooray, last case closed.

Excellent! Now start preparing next years party!
So what about the other cases? Any information?
10 days ?!?!?!
omfg. germans.

And TBL?
indeed. last case? There's a gaping hole in the pavement of the real wild compo for all we know...
I wouldn't mind so much about the TBL demo. The music is just a remix, not the original song. Remember the party version of the fabulous VIP 2 demo from Popsy Team. They used the original song from Fear Factory and forgot to credit them there and it's still one of the most popular demos of all time.
About the inspiration they got from this photographer: it's just inspiration. Take Lapsuus from Mature Furk for example. The scenes of the city which is being destroyed are taken from the movie Dark City, as well as the corridor scene. Everyone praised Mature Furk for their work, nobody claimed about idea ripping. They won ASM'01 with an Amiga demo and people are still impressed about it. So please calm down as it's not a real Timbaland. It's totally different compared to what Smash Designs did at the music compo.

hmm, deep meaning internet
bobic, I guess you have two different standards for music plagiarism.

orly?
bobic also thinks OSDM is a tool you can use to create "nice effects"
says it all, if you ask me... ;)

And this is mentioned nowhere in the release. That's not "just a remix", that's a five fingered discount instead of credit ought to be given.

Wow, that's really a point worth not having... You might also remember that there's a lot of people who still think that was a pretty lame thing to do. I'm one of them.
The other sad thing is that there's nothing more released out of parties (hot point I know). So, better think keeping your releases with more & less copyrighted materials for fun, and stop entering compos with them. Don't become Bill Gates otherwise you'll finish with lots of money and fame but without any piece of pride for having stolen the work from others. If you're a true artist, you know what it takes.

Look what happened to Mr Dillinger!

Same here, impressive demo but shame of the soundtrack. It seems to be a Frenchy thing though. Open your eyes, State of mind, etc.
And the only way you can't compare Timbo to TBL is the fact that they did it the other way around. From top40 tune to 'underground demo'.
okkie/shifter: For me the TBL case is closed because we've decided what BP's position on this is.
TBL won't be disqualified. The music might violate copyrights as it appears to be an unauthorized remix of a commercial track. Still, it's not a plain rip, and there has been a creative addition to it. It's a grey area, but entries usually don't get disqualified for this. It sucks that they didn't credit, but that also not a reason to disqualify it - this is something the scene needs to tell TBL to change in the future.
The possibly unauthorized remix however might be a legal issue, simply because it appears to be a remix of a TOP20-Song on a major label. Therefore we've removed the release from our servers for now. TBL has promised to solve this issue shortly, and that's what we are waiting for.
To sum this up: This is something the scene should solve itself - decide if they find TBL's way to compete OK or not (I don't), let them know and try to influence them to do better next time.

come on, if all 'inspired' demos are to be not welcome in the future, we'll go back to all demos with spikeballs in funky tunnels (which i like but heh...)
If we remove the barbies idea/circle face & vocals from that demo, there isn't much left.
More important: you may want to consider not to display the name of a group right before running a production, it can destroy/spoil a certain surprise effect that may have been carefully crafted by it's makers.

the barbie idea / face is 'artistic license'. There is nothing wrong with that, the music, for me, is another issue. I understand Scamp's reasoning and would have done the same if I where in his shoes. TBL made a booboo and they better not do it again!
Can't this case just be put to a rest?
