The 64 MB limit at BP07
category: general [glöplog]
S/M: Then don't read it. Or, considering your handles and the combination of their first letters, maybe you do enjoy it in some bizarre way. Just don't show us pictures of exactly how. I think Okkie shouldn't read it either, his bloodpressure must be going through the roof. But maybe you guys could satisfy him a bit too to relieve the pressure. Still, please, no pictures.
(was the above the beer talking?)
Still, Gloom: If I was in a group which was active, I would make a funny 3-4 minute movie, shove a vectorcube at the bottom right corner and release it as a demo. People would perhaps think it was lame. We don't care. It would most probably be fun to make. Or even to watch. Our productions often are.
And likewise with the 32kb exe music compos - I will naturally still compete with another two tracked tunes, the OldSkool entry entirely saved with ProTracker2.3 as executable, then packed (if necessary) and the newskool one fitted with a replayer by some friendly coder.
So, the bottom line is: Rules should be rules, not based on some assumed unwritten rules sceners inbetween - because, as this thread surely proves, such unwritten rules doesn't really exist.

what are you on about? Read what? My blood pressure is fine, i've been severly entertained by everything in this thread ^_^
It's not so much the content of this thread that I find entertaining, it's the rapid growth. This thing will hit 20 pages faster than any other thread in pouet.net history. And all for what, I wonder...?
for the children! think of the children!
Children \o/
I bet steohawk is thinking of children right now.

the scene will surely die!
quotation:

What is the demoscene?
In short; the demoscene is a large and independant group of people from all over the world who enjoy creating small computer programs that display dazzling graphics and music in real-time (read: "a demo").

No, BiTL, your information is outdated. Today, demoscene is a small group of people who enjoy creating large computer programs. LOL.
BiTL: most demos are small scale software projects.
anesthetic: you not understand. i say about size of programs. 64 mb it is not small programm, this large project equivalent of big shareware game.
demoscene is a small group of people that like to WHINE A FUCKING LOT ABOUT INANE BULLSHIT!
STOP IT! JUST FUCKING STOP IT ALRIGHT!
STOP IT! JUST FUCKING STOP IT ALRIGHT!
kb, you pedo .. pedofunk!
Well, BP07 is over.
Now, we can see that Farbrausch's and Fairlight's "64 Mb size limit" demand was a provocation: in fact, the first one released 170 kb demo, second one even beat them, releasing zero kb :)
Very funny :) I felt something like this would happen.
Anyway, I'm happy to see such small demo on the first place, congratulations!

it wasn't just a provocation.
this one was meant to be small, but if we had used conventional modeling/texturing and an .ogg soundtrack, we would've been able to do a lot of that stuff way faster (and a lot cleaner in some places too).
the result was great, but spending ~26 months on a demo is not something you want to do often :) - anything that makes it easier to make great prods is a good thing IMO.

ryg: cubes are not supposed to run through each other... :°)
26 months? Ouch.
