Ok, I'll make it short:

The website is hosted on a distributed trojan botnet. They switch from hacked box to the next once per hour.

The guys in the chat aren't the spam gang themselves, they are a hired service by the spam gang who get paid for each address they pick up.

Due to pouet users attacking them in the chat, the boss of the chat service appears to have talked to the spam gang, who then used the bot net to do a DDoS against pouet.net - as it appears it was "only" a HTTP request flood and/or SYN attack, so nothing really professional.

They said they'll stop the DDoS attack if pouet users stop attacking them in the chat.

If you have been visiting their chat, they check for the referrer and see you are coming from pouet - the google cache link however should be dead now anyway, as they've switched to a different box just a few minutes ago.

Either you need to stop back-attacking them, or a scene.org/pouet.net admin needs to first check if they are able to filter them - which only will really work if the number of hacked boxes they own aren't too big.

I've already reported them to the various ISPs and authorities involved, but well, they are running a pretty good botnet and it will be extremely hard to catch them or shut them down.

What if I want infos about Valve?

there was a DDoS attack? we even have a few known possible hammering exploits open and i still didnt notice any downtime today.. o_O maybe was during the night or something... still, don't see how we, scene.org/pouet.net admins, are gonna be able to prevent any pouet.net users that felt annoyed by their spam to stop back at them, specially after threats.. it's not like we control bots that do the work for us. it's the users who hate the clueless spammers..

PS: it was around 14:30 and Pouet was hardly reachable.

Still, if people really want to annoy them, they should do it coming from another website, so that those idiots don't see Pouet as a referrer (and not mentioning any demoscene stuff whatsoever)

Yup, pouet was down for about 1 hour or so - http requests sent didn't get back anything on the socket. Possibly the server running out of file handles and/or max processes.

If anyone cares I can later post the complete conversation log with the chat guy...
