Yeah it's .. almost unsettling at first. But then it gets very comfortable. I mean it's been a long time that I have difficulties coping with too much tension in games.
This one, like the one's it namedrops, has moments where you might just stop and look at the countryside, instead of running like an escaped prisoner.

Chameleon, actualy I believe pixel, the author of cave story shares a lot of the same motivation with us sceners.
He also made available piston collage, a music making tool that is an alternate universe equivalent of karsten obarski's soundtracker. Sideways!

1UP: Looks like a live action charcoal drawing

All the effects are mixable. So what I want to do is at the end you can unlock this feature when you can throw up the effect board (...) mix the effects on and off.
So you can mix effects on and off in realtime cause that's really what it is
It's actually done by code, there's no sprites or models or anything. What you're looking at is mathematical functions pretty much.
I like using programming to make visuals (...) You can tell each of those explosions are the same but there are actually really different, the way like no two snowflakes are alike (...)
The gameplay is like that: all the enemies spawn randomly with a certain logic and same with the music. There's lot of chance in the game, a lot of randomness.
