Not really a coding book, but I've always found real time computer graphics by Tomas Akanine-Moller a good read. (Might be a bit on the expensive side though.)

www.google.com is all the code book you'll ever need.

Most programming books, or at least the ones they choose to teach from at my uni, seem to be really expensive. Like 70 euros or more.

Maybe you should stick to free online material and think of another present. :)

hehe

I suck at coding, but most of what I learned about graphics programming is from here: http://student.kuleuven.be/~m0216922/CG/

Once you understand the examples I think you'll find out how to do many more effects yourself.

well... perhaps you should specify more... What kind of coding book is it that you need? A book about a language and if so, which language? About something else such as using an api such as DirectX or OpenGL?
Get Stroustrup's C++, it's been around for a while and you should be able to get that for almost nothing from a second hand dealer or such. :-)

Depends what kind of book you're looking for... Anyway, my favourite coding book is Writing Solid Code by Steve Maguire.

Pc Underground. It is a bit old now, but it was the book with wich I started in the demoscene. I know a lot of people considered it lame when released, but now my be a good point to start learning about oldschool effects.

Anyway, I think that with Google we don't need reference books anymore.

From Amazon: "10 used & new available from $0.95". It looks cheap.

"How not to program in C++" rocks.
