For those who missed it: A lunatic attacked this painting several years ago. Daniel Goldreyer was hired to do the restauration (for about $800.000), but when he returned it he was accused of doing the restauration with a simple paint roller. It caused quite a lot of (hilarious) fuss in the Netherlands :-) More info here.

Hmm, yeah, except for the fact that the above is a poster inspired by the painting, the actual painting looks like this:
There are several things hilarious. First, $800k for restauration... WTF. Second, a null understand of conceptual/minimalistic paints by the Musuem and art critics who said it was not finelly restored, telling the subtle differences in color were lost... WTF. In this kind of art, the idea is much more important than the technic or materials. I'm sure the creator needed only few hours to fill the surface... In the most of the cases, it is not important the kind of paint you are using or if you paint it with brush, paint roller, spray or whatever. So, a very big thumb up to Goldreyer to show museum stupidity that way.
He would have deserved that thumb up if he had requested a decent amount of money for that job and had told the museum how he was going to do the restauration. However, he got $800k. Note that we're talking about taxpayer money here.
the Dutch Bank bought this (unfinished) Mondriaan and made our politics upset a while ago for wasting money on this :D
that can't be a bad investement, so what are the politicians whining about? it's not like it'll ever be worth less, anyway.
