That's a lot of self-righteous crap there
I see you really took the time to study the flock of sheep to intended to fleece.
Reality check: the demoscene has shifted to the age bracket where people either work on the side of studies, or are actually professionals with a geeky hobby. They know a mousetrap when they see it. Your cheap bag of tricks doesn't work as well as it did back in the old times.
This can be compressed to: "Go away, n00b"
shftr: Even back in the day there were people like you who treated "n00bs" like shit, and it is unfortunate to see that their legacy of hate lives on. For brevity's sake, I'll just give you an age old argument to consider: You were a "n00b" once, and without "n00bs", your "scene" would die.
This statement in an 8-bit ASCII text file named "8.3" can be compressed to: 288 bytes with ARJ v2.41

i suppose nobody here will code for that project... so just stop the discussion and do something that makes more sense than arguing on the internet.
"legacy of hate"?
seriously, you should stop getting your rhetorics from tv. it's bad for you.

I keep coming back here because despite the overall warning of "slimy producer who won't do anything" I keep hoping that there's at least SOME part of you that can be fixed.
So. In case you haven't figured it out by now, I like your concept. I just don't see any reason for anyone to pay a damn bit of attention to it, based on the way it's been presented. (By, essentially, slimy producer who wants to get something cool by bilking others out of their work.)
If you think about it, you can see all kinds of reasons why no one would want that. Even though it's the norm in places like TV, the record industry, the gaming industry... but it sucks.
So, how do you appeal to us? Well, you STOP USING THE METHODS THAT WORK ON OTHERS. (Particularly the slashpuke appeal. You don't wanna know what some of these guys do to people who act like everything in 1989 was the best thing EV AH.)
Ya gotta do better. Seriously. Ditch the shovel (the one you're digging your own grave with) and the attitude (I know better! - um, yeah so does everyone else we've ever encountered... it's nice that you know better but this is more fun.) and try to understand the spirit here.
Instead of trying to exploit it. Cuz we can just SMELL the exploitatoin aspect on people.
Seriously, you'll have more fun if you get involved. At least, you will if you're gonna be 'successful' here.

Again, you didn't study up on the people you're trying to lure. The scene has been dead for years already.
Go away and make this easier for everybody involved :)

I wasn't sure what part you meant to be involved with, the SEEK300 project or the scene here... Either way, I totally agree, and I am involved; I do this for fun. As for SEEK300, I have successfully done the whole thing with hardware. The reason we want a software signal is for cleanliness, that is, purity of signal. I have scoured the web for help on this and everyone has the same predictable attitude: fuck off, give us money! When I win the lottery or strike oil while mining for diamonds in my backyard, I'll be sure to spread the love. As for the scene, I've been out for going on 10 years, though I'm not referring to strictly the "demo" scene. Back then, as I'm assuming you know, all the "scenes" were basically one entity, as there just weren't enough of us to have a lot of genre-specific "focus groups" if you will :) Sure, there were tribal separations, but we all worked together. I'm not saying, "Hey, you should change!", but trying to let you know where I come from, since everyone seems to be telling me that they are above helping "my kind". If you truly like my idea, then please let someone you might know who does this kind of stuff for fun know that I need some help here! It is not my intention to exploit anyone or come across as "slimy producer", etcetera, and I do apologize for my abysmal ignorance :/
As for you shftr: Grrr, I'm not trying to "lure" anyone, I'm asking for help here and attempting to reward that help the best I can within my means (as meager and worthless as they may seem to you). And I'm not going away because a few people chastise me and misinterpret my intentions. Your attempts at subtle insult only will only work on the weak-minded, so maybe *you* should look elsewhere to compensate for your inadequacy... [sarcasm]was that subtle enough for you?[/sarcasm] :)
At any rate, maybe you're all right and I'm a has-been wanna-be relic. On the other hand, I tend to disagree with that notion and hope that I won't be a pariah for too long.

you need help. what to do next?
a) you ask for it.
b) you organize a competition to get the best help.

Hey,
If all you want is just to transfer a signal over some modulated carriers, it is probably a _lot_ easier to just take http://oric.free.fr/TOOLS/tapetools.zip. This already contains binary (oric tape) to wav support, and vice versa. It has some cleaning filters in there. The encoding (afaik) resists all kinds of abuse pretty well, and was even used to be transmitted over radio for countrywide downloads (at least in nl).
It comes with source, but if you want to know how well it works in a real scenario you can always start with the prefab executables and run a tap file through your speakers and mike to see how well it works.

T l: I was preparing to set up and test some gear for my next live performance, thinking about the theme for the show, and some things you said occurred to me in a different light... That basically my approach was flawed at a foundational level, and it dawned on me that you are probably correct. When I came to this board to post about SEEK300, I had been asking for help at *great* length on some other boards and was so tired of typing the same stuff over and over in response to individual questions that this competition was a "last resort". I had failed to think about the fact that perhaps no one here had heard of what I was doing. I'm slow some days, so you'll have to forgive me :) I also thought of how hazing rituals are common throughout all facets of society (especially in this facet), and forgot that I'd have to take my licks from everyone I encountered again, haha. I had a good laugh about overlooking simple things while focusing on complex issues, when I warn people of the same thing all the time. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know that "some part of me" acknowledged what you had been talking about, though I think it is still broken and in need of fixing :P
anesthetic: I came back to post the above to T l and saw that you had paraphrased my temporary lapse of reason. Maybe I should lay off the "beer", eh?
avoozl: Congratulations and thanks for the first suggestion that might help the project along (in a more tangible way, heh heh). I'll check it out.

Well the fixing part is probably almost as much fun as participating. Anyway, also remember to read the disclaimers. Like the one about 'things to remember before you post' (:

Wow, you really thought this one over, didn't you?
MYTH: I am subtle in voicing my opinion.
And we point at exhibit A, so well-put by anesthetic a few posts up. You organize a compo to get what you want? I've been better honey pots that involved people getting shot up with heroin for fame.
One thing we all missed: how is this a throw at the Burning Man philosophy again? What's your sales angle there? :)

As for the Burning Man comment, there is no one philosophy that you can categorically apply to it. Are you sure you know what it is? The event exists for the sake of art *as such* with no rigid adherence to laws created for the suppression of expression required. There are suggested themes each year, but as far as an overall governing censorship, there is none. The SEEK300 project embodies community and audience participation, both of which are pretty important at Burning Man, since without them the event would be very different and probably wouldn't exist on the scale that it currently does. Case in point from their website:
I could debate the fundamental nature of art and philosophy with you all day, but since you had to ask, you'll never get it, heh. For a brief synopsis of my thoughts concerning the definition of art, specifically my art, refer to my bio: http://www.oblyvaeon.com/bio.html To put it in terms you'll understand: It might help if you studied the individual you are trying to discredit.
And as you so eloquently put it:

There are no rules about how one must behave or express oneself at this event (save the rules that serve to protect the health, safety, and experience of the community at large); rather, it is up to each participant to decide how they will contribute and what they will give to this community.

Finally had a chance to check this out. The tap2wav tool is very similar to what I need, though it seems to output square waves and uses the Oric tape format for input. If I this could be adapted with a higher resolution sine formula and 8-bit ASCII input, it would do exactly what I need for the basic implementation of SEEK300... sweet. I don't know how easy this would be though, or if my math skills are up to par :/ Anyone out there have any skill in this area or thoughts on how to do this?

Yeah something is definately wrong. I used the windows compile Tap2WavWin.exe to convert International Karate into a .wav file, and the result was 85 minutes long. I'm quite positive that it didn't take 85 minutes to load International Karate...
