MAIN Party in France, who's coming ?
category: general [glöplog]
They said there would be a ftp and that they'd be uploading the prods on scene.org
But I bet we will have done it ourselves fast enough.

releases on exotic setups didn't help indeed.
Not having a clue, more likely.
Not having D3DX*.dll files that are included in the DX9 redist from last April is pretty clumsy. Not having tested the entries and not having an idea whether the sound is broken or not is just plain fucking stupid.
what shifter said.
50 visitors?
less, around 35-40. yumee.
Gosh ! 35-40 people ?!
Looks like the French demoscener is now an endangered species. :(
Anyway, kudos to the MAIN orgas.

It's more an issue with french demosceners being too lazy to show up ;)
And for what's worth, even if the way the competition were organized was not up to the task, there were some very good aspects to the party:
- the place is absolutely great, it even has a nice restaurant
(and had easily enough space for +400 sceners)
- the auditorium for showing compos has a very nice big screen, and good sound system
- one good idea, was to ask people to say a few words about their entry just before it is shown/played.
- the contact with outsiders, and their openness/genuine interest.
- each scener contributed at least one production
It basically really needs some improvement on organisational techniques and management of competitions / and 10 times more people ;) But I really hope for a second issue, with a bigger crowd.

Any executable "MAIN party reports" in the making, guyz ? Or is it a lost tradition ?
Perhaps some blog entries ?
Perhaps some blog entries ?
Main has huge potential and fuckups are normal when you organize a party for the first time, without the help of experienced party organizers.
Too bad fuckups become immense when you are live on dTV and many visitors were disappointed... with a lower profile, Main party would just have been a normal 1st issue, with the regular flaws.
Anyway, kudos to everyone who keeps the scene alive feeding it with party events and releases.
See you at Main2!

As there is only one Assembly, the point is :
-keep a low profile.
-keep the demoscene spirit in your organization.
-makes some real advertisements to the demoscene.
-focus on demoscener enjoyment during your party (blow jobs and such are not necessary. some booze and FTP with porns are enough with possibly some funny events)
And never forget that a party is made to ... party first.
So if I'll have to organize one (and I happen to know I won't!), I would focus 120% on fun as if I was about to invite some friends at home (now you know how messy my home can be) but with a rock-stable organization and competition scheme.
This Main party sounded too much like "this party is endorsed by xxx, xxx, xxx with xxx guest stars, with xxx xxx xxx officials, xxx xxx xxx ...". High profile.
And nothing clear about the party and competition schedule, and too little attention to the first material of a demoparty: the demosceners !
Breakpoint is a beautiful example of what a strong organization combined to a pertinent coolness spirit can result in.
Though, big up to Main orgas for their balls.

Yeah, there were some obvious flaws ( like : living in the town where the party took place, i only of the festival/party 1 week before the actual party ! )
But i think all visitors/sceners that participate in the event all agreed on one thing : this has a fucking great potential ! The whole setup can host a very big and professional event, and i think that's a very important thing. It means that with proper communication scheme, and ads plan, a very good demoparty could be held in France.
It is now our duty as sceners, to promote and support such event. And yeah, i'm talking FRENCH sceners first !
It's no wonder french parties are dying if even french fellas don't dare come to french events. So respect to those who came to MAIN.1.
So check out, MAIN.2 will have some more coverage for sure, and yeah there'll be a MAIN.2 !

If there will be girls, you might be able to see me.
And don't forget to move it near Paris next time.
Ok just joking... Pas les dents ! Pas les dents !

I think you fail to mention the audio fuckups were fixed only after they were noticed during the synRJ release. And how affected releases never got a replay or any mention. German parties (and pretty much any other real party) have the balls to aknowlegde failure.

I fixed that statement for you. Find the changes and win a free ticket for the cluebus.
Frankly, there were about 3 persons in the hall who actually know about rob is jarig. The joke is seriously getting old and nobody actually complained about it not being actually played in full.
If you were there in person and could personally stand for it, you'd have a point.

I would have liked to be still there at the prize ceremony just to dance on rob is jarig, believe me.
we sort of sang to it.
hehe :)
Hey sceners,
Thanks to all. Those who came and those who encourage us. Thank you for the advices and the criticisms, they help us to make better for the next version.
To build a demoparty is not easy especially in France, but we took the risk of making it in a bizarre country with regard to the demoscene. If the Scandinavian or German example is to be followed we have to find our particular code with regard to "les francais". We found a beautiful room in a cool city, Marseille. We have of to convince quite a lot of "big crocodiles" for this.
At the moment, we can begin to work on the version 2, not alone but together. I think it's the sense and the way of the demoscene.
Thanks to all those who moved for the party.

Man, if only you were part of the conspiracy, you'd know there were at least 12 of us there.
Mind you, our releases at MAIN were simple fodder. We had already withdrawn our serious releases before the weekend and we just thought we might as well release some gimmicks to at least amuse and annoy people ever so slightly. Even if it wasn't exactly 2006 Scene.org material, surely you frenchies could've handled things profesionally?

I was at X, communicating over the phone with the people in Marseille and elewhere during preparation/submission/fuckups/afterwards in between having a ball with the C64 people.
...X. Now there was a cleancut party for you -no fuckups, save for that one music entry that required an unexpanded, virgin C64 because the crew never actually made anything since 1986. THAT is a party, gentlemen. MAIN is a nice startup, but they sure done fooled them foreigners into coming to an empty stage. And i have the steep bill to prove it too (sadly).
For the results (befor uploading at scene.org)

Shifter, and you koreans should stop exploding nukes.
