.. and come to sundown 2006!

category: general [glöplog]
sundown is the biggest, best (and only) multi-platform uk demoparty. it's in budleigh salterton, near exeter in devon. 6-8th october 2006.
come over and party with your uk scene friends! you've seen us at breakpoint, you've heard about the pubmeets and seen the photos - now it's time to check us out in our natural habitat in person.

features:
- 100% scene, all platforms welcomed
- fine quality local ales and pastys
- various high quality demo, music and gfx competitions for pc, amiga, c64, speccy, consoles and many more besides - if you bring it, and it runs on a computer (and if you bring that computer, if it's weird hardware), there'll surely be a competition to put it in.
- great party atmosphere and room for around 100 visitors, with free tea and coffee (and possibly biscuits) for all
- obligatory roaring competition

if you want to travel in from a foreign country, let us know and we'll help you plan how to get here as easily+cheaply as possible. if you're coming from somewhere in the uk, also let us know because there could be some car-sharing possibilities.

check the website here for all the info:

Ok never mind I seem to have shown that invite to several UK folks I've tried to get to parties and several are locals, and they're going now, so I'm pretty much ... checking flight prices...
Hmmm... interesting. It is a bitch to get down there on a train/bus, but hopefully someone can pick me up on M4 junction below Reading or something...

I'm driving down from Loughborough on M1->M42->M5 if anyone wants a lift. I'm willing to stop by at train stations as long as they're fairly close to the route...

And I'm providing the intra and beamer set-up, so it doesn't really start until I get there :)

Navis: I'm prolly hopping a train to get there, so you could just catch up with me at Reading?

I have to pick up a pair of glasses in Reading anyway that wasn't ready when I moved here. So I have to stop there anyway, tho I was thinking on the way BACK...

Leia: I'm just trying to arrange transport and where I'm staying, so I can figure out if I go back on Tuesday, Wednesday, or if I just hop over to Amsterdam for X.

Gargaj: Sorry, dude, but I showed the invite to 3 friends in the UK and they said "I'm up for that." After which, well, I mean I've been TRYING to get these guys to go to pubmeets, Breakpoint, etc... can't pass up the chance to actually be there (:
if you want to come and want to try and get a lift, post on the forums on www.sundowndemoparty.org. then we can try match people up with those who are driving (like some kind of scene dating agency).

rc55: there's an issue, though; when trying to book those prices on the website in question, I ran into a problem where they absolutely REFUSE to allow foreign addresses in the booking process.

I've selected Finland, ever so nicely, and even typed in my postal code. It refuses to allow it, because it's not British.

Making it a requirement that I find someone local to order me the tickets, etc.

Which isn't a BIG problem, as various sceners may do such, but still, it's less than optimal.

I'm still not booked as I'm not sure what the schedule is gonna be, and travel plans may be slightly altered if someone else is driving, etc (:
yup rc55 those are exactly the train tickets we got... and I already have the tickets delivered to my flat!!! :) :)

SGT if you need tickets just ask!
sole: I will as soon as I have word from locals about their schedule; I'm gonna work visiting them in as well (Echo and wife are having his first kid, a daughter, 2nd generation scener alert and all that.) I just need to know who's about and if Monday & Tuesday are best or just Monday.
Navis: can you contact me (rc55 {at] rc55 [dot} com), with your permission I'll post a news item on the party site asking for a travel buddy for you.

ok, how to get there from Oxford? (for somebody who isn't familiar with the mass transportation system there, or with UK in general). And how much does it cost? (I mean the travel)

I hope Flt and Asd will release a demo on sundown ;)

blala: option a:) take the train from oxford to exeter; get collected from exeter. cost depends on how early you book the train ticket - maybe £30?
that would involve getting a train from oxford to reading (which takes about 20 minutes) and then a train from reading to exeter (about 1 hour 40)

option b:) if you're coming, we can see if anyone else who is coming has the ability to collect you on the way by car. potential cost: not much :) (petrol only)

hope that helps.

Reading to Exeter return was £34 for me, with a Young Person's Railcard, so probably £40something - £50 for anyone else. Oxford to Reading, probably another £10.
