This is why Breakpoint demo compo sucked ass.
draft, so shall we build a new pouet.net where productions once uploaded are not accessible, but must be swapped from users to users, which in turn are able to forward it to other users at a given cost of a certain currency?
draft: if you really forgot about all the crap demos that used to float around in the old days as well (do miles and miles of the same boring scroller demos ring a bell?) then it's about time you start visiting the clueshoppe.
Lamers did not spawned with the interweb. It's just a mean to expose their lameness to a broader audience.

kyllä scene oli ennen hyvä kun kaikki demot oli puulehmiä ja partypaikkana kivi...
sparcus, crap demos may have existed but there were far fewer of them spread widely. Traders lived by the quality of what they traded, and back then we didn't have infinite bandwidth. It was 5k/sec dialup, phone charges per minute.
Remember, releasers didn't trade their own stuff beyond a few parties or boards back then. Traders did it all, so if you didn't have a worthy prod or access to a good bbs (0day, whq for somewhere etc) then your prod wouldn't make it beyond 10 or so boards.
Now it's massive bandwidth, fixed & cheap prices, loads of storage space. It's easy for releasers to trade their own prods regardless of quality. Draft is right, a symptom of the Internet in almost all communities is a decrease of signal to noise ratio.

what is this "super famicom" group the gentleman above speaks of
And nowadays we have word of mouth and our own judgement to help us discern in advance which prods will probably be a waste of bandwidth and time. Also, anyone who actually thinks a thumbflood a jokeprod might get is a sign of respect paramount to what a serious, well crafted production receives, needs to get their fucking head examined.
So, until I become a freak who really needs to see everything that's added to Pouet, I'll stand by the statement I made in my previous post.

jobe, won't you think of the poor scene.org awars jurors who have to swift through all that stuff ;)
Knos, somehow I'm having a hard time imagining the Scene.org Awards jury concerning itself with JML or Speedfisters prods :)
WOW WHAT A LAME DISCUSSION - I LOVE IT <3 !!1
the speaker at the scene.org awards ceremony, dressed up in a fancy suit, had the pleasure to say "shitfaced clowns" a couple of times gravely into the camera. it was a bit awkward at least.
who knows whether it's better for the scene to stay fun and un-PC or push this scene.org-ish public image stuff...

jobe, you'd be surprised. At least about jumalauta.
But I must add this is probably not true anymore after this year's flood.
