Yeah that we like 90% of the work: coming up with fractals that are doable on x87. Inkblots is another variant from the same ideas. Then I used shadertoy to find something I liked in the fractal (I got actually lucky: I found the thing pretty early on, near to where I started looking; all the later searches resulted nothing quite as good). Then there was the boring part of making it in x86asm; I was happy that I didn't have to compromise too much on compared to what was in the original shader when rounding the constants.
