Deater, I do not know where do ya come from ;). The work you put into it, and the final result are just... ouch.. amazing.
The last tune is really great.
Respect and greetz!

Oh… a desire release?
Cool.
Cool.

Q. I thought you said you weren't going to do this?
A. I say a lot of things.
LOL!!!
Hehe,. some of the parts or effects are badly done or just animations, but understandable considering the platform.
Remakes on lower end platform can be really cool, but with how poorly this runs, it probably shouldn’t have been done.
Thumbs up for the effort, but the actual end result is... Probably what lynn said. So piggy from me, I guess?
So cool that we have this one on this platform!
It's a brave attempt, but most parts are very slow.
What lynn said. I really appreciate the effort and the concept, but some of these effect realisations don't do much for me other than demonstrating the limitations of the platform. For me, that's the opposite of what a demo should be. But piggy for the commitment.
Well, that was courageous.
Like other people here, not too sure of the end result. I'll wait and see for a final version.

I... No. Maybe do something you invented yourself? Work with the limitations of the platform.
Some effects are so fake it hurts my eyes!
Next time, abandon nostalgia, please. :]

Can we please stop with the Second Reality remakes. The couple few ok looking effects would have been better used in an original demo, this just looked like a terrible mess.
hmm, the original Ultima I machine ... (i think ...) not sure about the specs but i do love me a megademo, i had a thought when watching but the comments seem to say as much ... its nice to show off tek-tek on venerable hardware but to me stuff like Void for the zx ( https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=87732 ) really stands out when it comes to "i love my old machine" megademos ... that doesnt make it any less impressive effort- and code-wise imo. I mean you cant do these things without lookup tables and precalc tables if thats what the commentaters mean by "fake" animations ... but hey , as long as opinion's free every comment is a gud comment and better than no comment hahah ... great, do a 13 minute story now (in 5 minutes, you know ... like youtubers :p)
The limits of the system show. Thumb goes up nevertheless for incredible effort and nostalgia ❤️
Great shaders, only lacks a bit originality. Second Reality is so good it deserves all the bukkake.
Amazing demake of the classic world famous finnish MS-DOS demoscene demo to an Apple II made by a world star team
Lol, looks like a joke or a try to release a desert dream copy in apple 2, try again :)
Is the Apple II as a platform really such a bad fit for mediocre demoscene staple effects?
(Oh, but piggy for the hilarity, intentional or not.)
"Trying to bite more than the Apple II can chew".
Everyone knew it was impossible, until ...
It is obvious that this was created without assiduity.
At the very least, the conversion of GFX could be done more accurately.

This is just not enjoyable to watch in the end.. I just don't see why this was done in the first place, there's not even a single part that feels like it justifies making a demake. It feels very forced, and a bad fit for the hardware.
I won't get into opinions on the "me too" trend of copying 2nd Reality, Bad Apple, ST-NICCC, etc. It's been discussed, and either you care or you don't. My criticism here is that you picked a platform that is not a good fit for the original. 2nd Reality C64 worked because they were able to pull off all the effects, even if slower and lower resolution or polygons, which is part of the demake charm. If you're just flipping between two pictures, that's not a demo; that's not really even an animation.
I agree with leGend: Work with the limitations of the platform. I'd rather see effects that the Apple ][ can do well. Piggy because you made an effort and I don't want to be a jerk.

Yeah what most people have said. SR2 is incredibly stale and it was a chore to get through. The music is fun and I won’t thumb down something with a lot effort behind it, but yeah, make the apple II sing on its own accord, not through a mediocre demake of a 31 year old demo.
Can’t wait for an original production!

yeah, cannot feel the wow factor when most effects run so slow they seem to be 4-8 frames during their running time... entire demo could've been a slideshow of ~64 pictures or smth instead of real time effects, hell, it even might be. :D
Piggy for the effort but some things are really best left undone. Even considering the platform most "effects" are of shit quality.
Doesn't seem quite optimized
What phoenix said. TBH the end result feels a bit more like “someone playing 2nd Reality with cardboard models and flipbooks” than an actual attempt at recreating the effects? Perhaps that's impossible, but then again, perhaps not every platform needs their remake.
I really like the tunes and it's still an interesting effort even if not totally realisable on the Apple ][.
I think it's funny
I'm sure a lot of effort went into this but I don't really find the end result enjoyable either. Second Reality doesn't feel the same when the effects run at 2-3 fps or look very far removed from the original ones.
The music is nicely converted though. The images not so much...

What Okkie and the rest said. I kind of applaud the guts to do this, but it's definitely not more than the sum of its parts.
Is Apple II really this bad or is it just poorly optimized? The music I liked tho.
terrible
There's beating a dead horse but this is more like gently poking a dead horse with a twig. Sorry guys, but no.

I thought we're supposed to like those.
I didn't realise the Apple ][ was this limited, and to be brutally honest, the original Second Reality is so overrated to begin with. I think the Apple would've managed better with the superior Desert Dream.
Great music adaptation. The rest, was a lot more though to pull and either really too much for the Apple II, or would require incredible efforts.
Props for trying but the end result just shows the weakness of the platform.
hmmm....
Honestly, I have mixed feelings... on the one hand, it's great that another port of Second Reality was created for an 8-bit computer... on the other hand, it's clear that many things were neglected... for example, the graphics could have been much better convert. I'm curious about the final version... in my mind's eye I imagined a version for Atari XL/XE... and even graphics made in G2F... but I give it a thumbs up because I don't know the full limitations of the platform it was made for. And knowing the guys from the Desire group, I know that they tried their best. I'm waiting for the final version!
Amusing.
*sigh*
I'm sorry but just no. This is bad even for the platform even though I do respect the work that went into it. As to what the platform is actually capable of, see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2uZCSfIqR4
Surprised by the votes. Funny how only when a platform is unable to replay animation at full framerate does the majority of Demosceners not gaga and wow. XD
And this with a sound card.
I would say embrace the limits, stay true, deliver for your platform, and ppl will get it, even if it looks and sounds according to platform specs. Some will appreciate, knowing the platform and there is ample evidence here. Worth it much more than a back-slaps from a friend. The work done is understood.
I don't believe in HW enhancements, all the platforms have that available (but very rarely allowed in competition) and PC, that's all it is, not a platform (and always allowed in competition, played on the beefiest pile of cards ofc, compomachine upgraded for $1000/yr).
