That look great! One of the very few PC demos I liked on the stream.

visuals
Nice visuals, yes
very interesting and perfectly executed blending of nature & mathematics
Whoa. The foliage (I guess it's somehow raymarched clouds colored green? =) ). So nice. Best of compo for me.
Another one i instantly rewatched. Some parts are so incredibly realistic and immersive that i still shake my head in disbelief. Why? How? It's just 3d fractals right? Stunning production.
The grand experiment finally bears wonderful fruit.
Some scenes felt so massive, it was incredible. The water and the forest from the beginning look amazing and the camerawork in some scenes was astounding. the music did its best to add to the atmosphere. Although at some points it felt a little disconnected, it was a blast to watch.
great
Love the feeling in this one. Feels real. Lovely music as well.
Visually beautiful, very nice polished whole surrounded by good music. Well done!
nice effects and absolutely awesome soundtrack
Astounding vibes, hits all my buttons <3
Fantastic prod! so much work!
This was by far the best demo in the compo. Too sad it didn't win :(
Blown away by the marvelous soundtrack, the general aesthetics and how masterfully it was all linked together. Loved it!
A bit heavy on the film grain, sometimes it's a bit too obviously trying to hide rendering artifacts (at least that what it looks like). But awesome visuals, very atmospheric, and you nailed the 'alien planet' vibe.
amazing atmosphere!
Finally a fresh take on fractals. The soundtrack is absolutely massive in places.
nice palette and camera movement. killer sound.
OH FUCK YES
Must be the most photorealistic looking demo ever! Wouldn't be out of place with a David Attenborough voice over in some of these scenes.
Definitely.
Awesome work!
I wholeheartedly approve of this use of fractals.
Fantastic demo!
Should have deserved to be ranked higher.
Hope to see more from you soon.

Impressive rendering, although the demo is a bit too much of a 3d flythrough for my own taste.
best of the party for me
the music was nice, drop had some pleasant saturation and was quite loud in volume / impactful.
the visuals were not my cup of tea though

A journey to a new continent, with mysteries waiting to be discovered.
Seriously never gotten a feeling like this from a demo before. Fractals are not fresh, but this demo IS fresh. The atmosphere is unique.
I'd want to explain it, but somehow cannot put it properly into words. Just watch it, you'll get it.

My favourite of the compo, the atmosphere created by the visuals and music is astonishing. Props for including the sources.
My pick to win the compo
Some scenes I love, some seem a little bit disconnected (but it’s get better the more I watch it). But the typography I don't like, especially the kerning.
Fresh! Love it. For me #1 at Revision21
every use of fractals that isn't this should be banned. the only demo that did something fresh and did it beyond expectations.
won the compo for me with a *huge* margin.

so unique!!
Wow. This is how outer fractal worlds could really look like. Very photorealistic and I love the last scene. This really should have won.
A giant forest fights against a massive fractal temple. The forest seems to win, but the mammoth skeleton lurks in the depths, plotting revenge.
The fractal structures of a lost civilisation presented with a really cool organic feel through film grain, colour grading, gate weave, hand-held cameras and soundtrack full of traditional instruments.
I like the idea of weed growing over metal fractals.
I was trying to guess how the sky was generated, then found the real photos in the assets folder :P

Lots of really good scenes, that sometimes feel disconnected. I really like the organic camera movements.
awesome and my cup of tea -> should have won!
Wow, the direction / camera movements is close from perfection.
And the rendering is photorealistic.
And I love it :)!

Easily best of compo for me. Fantastic in pretty much every aspect.
I would be interested in reading a bit about how the renderer works. My best guess (thanks to the shot that moves the camera apart from the acceleration structure) would be some sort of world-space surface caching for the first hit rays, and then accumulating the result of further paths in that?
Either way, fantastic work, please keep it coming :)

Love the camera work and atmosphere. Great soundtrack as well
for some reason fractals felt brand new here. maybe because they've finally been freed from confines of tiny intros and given really nice rendering, the benefits of a proper skydome texture and a handheld-esque camera.
some parts were a bit messy but the "real-world" scenes looked epic, next-level compared to the rest of the stuff on show this year. much of that is down to some very good lighting + direction choices and a big soundtrack.
congrats, really deserved to win.
btw, heavy use of reprojection on the render by any chance? :) (noisy when fast moving, artefacts at the screen edges)

The nature scenes were spectacular (combined with the fantastic audio design), but the other "industrial" fractal scenes felt kind of jarring and discontinuous to me. But in any case, next-gen fractal stuff. Awesome.
i found the second part incredibly good but the overall camera work is just purely awesome
I guess I'll be that negative Nancy who wished that the fractals would have been a bit more hidden or at least transformed from their standard forms. Seeing them as-is gave this demo an unintended(?) 64k vibe.
Regardless the procedural foliage was the best-looking I've ever seen and the water rendering, atmosphere and music were also excellent. As the others already said, this probably should have won.

i'm divided on this one. some of the scenes (and sounds) are awesome, but overall it feels a bit disjointed, with an accumulated of small "wrong" details that broke the immersion for me.
jee
good stuff! camera & soundtrack lift the great visuals one level higher.
Doesn't work on AMD because of a gl NV shader extension not available... (my graphic card is a RX480 so not that old by the way)
.
Really shows how realistic camera work can make synthetic scenes feel real :)
What I imagine when Cocoon and Altair have a baby. Worked well, very enjoyable solid piece of demo making. Hopefully it's not one trick pony though. Thumb up guys!
Just a black screen on AMD :(
Lovely fractals, pretty nature-like shaders, amazing camera work, awesome and powerful music. Just pity not use the opportunity to tell some deeper story.
Finally a demo that does something interesting with fractals. In particular, I really like the out of frustum sequence.
The artefacts can get distracting, but overall the impressive visual quality makes them worth it.
I also really like the work done on the camera work to ground it in the world.

Great camera work and visual quality
Yeah, those camera movements really add a lot.

fuck yeah <3A write-up is now online.
Great camera shakes and rendering of fractals and trees. Still kinda wanted to watch this in 64k...
I'm enjoying reading the write-up!

Probably the technically most advanced entry from Revision, full of great ideas, and yet there's something that didn't click. It's great effort in all areas, but it just didn't gel for me.
I wonder if that's part of what took me out of the experience and turned into into a bit of an imbalanced halfway house of a techdemo and a more zen-like narrative-experience.

Also, that shot where the camera moves "outside the scene" is there exactly because I wanted to reveal how it all works.

Nice design and graphics. Plus, technically IMHO the most advanced in the compo. My personal winner.
great writeup, much appreciated! a nice + interesting technical approach.
Should've won
great, like the movie style!
Heavy, heavy hitter, awesome, awesome ambience.
Awesome tech, thought we'll see 'Turtles all the way down' a bit later.

Thanks of the final and the write-up! One of my favs from the party.
There's wonder, awe, in it. Obviously in the text, but also metatextually in that it's not obvious how it works even to the more technical among us. It's a line that's almost impossible to straddle; most demos that try to include the latter tend to always play favors for it and the rest suffers. Not this one though, it's somehow a perfect marriage.
Huge soundtrack (easily best work from shaiggon so far), and perhaps even bigger achievement in demo direction. There are flaws, but insignificant enough that they get lost next to the big picture. It was a joy and a privilege to get to follow the development, yet you still exceeded my expectations. Thank you.

What everyone else said.
This was super nice! Great colors and also the music was on point with the visual style. But I wouldn't expect anything less from shaiggon!
Also woah super duper nice to hear that something I've done has inspired to do something this cool.

liked the demo a lot - some really whooohoooo moments. but the music was AMAZING. Huge thumbs obviosuly :)
The visuals in this are really great, absolutely mind-blowing! And i need, NEED to work out how to do trees that look like that! (it is for a thing..) Also the realistic camera movements are a nice touch that add to the immersion.
However, i will say i found the whole thing a bit disconnected, it seems to jump from one scene to another without any narrative justification. Nevertheless a solid thumbs up from me.

Please tell me, good sir, where can I book a trip to that place? I need a vacation.
like it
after the great opening i almost waited for it to get ruined by something horrible. but then it offered (mostly) very nice scenes fitting the music. well done!
Some of the fractal scenes felt a bit inconsistent to me.
All the nature scenes are just gorgeous 😍
Awesome demo!

not sure why its 100mb+ but awesome non the less!
I love the camera work on this one!
At first, I thought it was a 64K as all the visual content looks like generated data.
Really great show, congrats!

a little too much 4k looking menger effects for my taste but the other effects and the soundtrack do rock.
very solid!
very solid!
Different
Well done. Great lighting. In the tunnel with running camera motion, I felt like I was being chased by that blob guy in N1A1. :) The water reflection is a little unnatural though. The start and end scenes are short but add to the mystery, I guess.
Excellent! Loved it, both the visuals and the music!
Decent. :)
Yikes...
Pleasant !
very cool.
very enjoyable
utterly amazing soundtrack, athmosphere and cinematic direction - in the first half there are some scenes which don't keep up with others from the second half (the one before the "electric field", but just because the second half is so amazing.
I will definitely re-watch this a lot, great work!

Nice
UNESCO postcard quality
really nice.
pretty fab
amazing demo, the impossible structures integrated to a (almost) realistic environnement and the nice camera moves give a great sense of scale, like comtemplating building made by ancient gods.
What rez said, well done! <3
Damn, that dark, shaky inside scene was intense.
Feels like a film!
doesn't run on my AMD RX 480. there are some compilation errors (for an nvidia extension i think).
oh ok, read the nfo.
as far as i know, you can do "atomics" on AMD by just not using the atomics extension and adding it without explicit atomic add.
That's what the IFSRenderer project on github does to splat to the screen and it works totally fine with flame fractals. (https://github.com/bezo97/IFSRenderer/blob/master/IFSEngine/Rendering/Shaders/ifs_kernel.comp.shader).

My favourite from the compo. Finally someone's pushing the envelope again.
wrighter: The final version should run on AMD, I tested it for cce on my RX570 and while it ran, it wasn't particularly fast, so I wouldn't have my hopes high for the RX480 ;)
Nice!
very cinematic and the soundtrack was fantastic (all synthesized ?)
Massive in all respects
I actually meant to thumb this up, I apologize for the mistake! Would like to add that the music makes this demo work to its level best since it's very powerful and incredibly atmospheric.
I agree with adkd .
My favourite demo from the last couple of years. Music is a big part of that. Congrats!
Awesome <3
This is space exploration. And scifi. In Demoscene format. Everything that is good and worth in this Universe. So thank you.
Lovecraft would be freaking proud.
Lovecraft would be freaking proud.
looks very strong!
Great in every aspect and a nice companion to eternal fortress. Dig the tech as well.
That was unexpected, each scene made my jaw drop a bit more, wonderful experience, a demo I'd rewatch.
great concept and camera work
woo, runs well on my rtx 4080 super ^^
Honestly from the best fractal demos and banger soundtrack. Love the trees in particular
