Lot of super nice effects and impressive one man prod!
lots of delicious HAM stuff here :) even if design-wise its totally out of place
very cool!
amazing effects, beautiful color palette, decent scenes... i really like this prod :)
Outstanding technical achievement! Very enjoyable fresh style not sticking to demoscene idioms, with a wonderful catchy soundtrack.
Thumbs up for the one man effort.
I loved this one, fresh and full of completely off-the-wall ideas.
Fresh and cool.
Loved the style and music. Original and entertaining, technically groundbreaking work.
Wow, there are some serious effects in demo. Had me scratching my head trying to work out how they are put together.
Some really good effects in here
Wow! So many cool, fresh effects. Also, nice music!
rulez
interesting demo :) very good effect
I was like "dude. NO. well, YES. Eww! Boah! NOO. stop it. well YES, Y E S"
Good tech, but horrible design :-\ My eyes.. Please get a graphician involved for the next one :)
This ruled!!!
Wow, this is the Amiga demo I'm waiting for years now. Fresh, creative, puzzling, inspiring, ... Kudos for pulling this off alone! I hope you find a nice family to team up.
OK, this was the absolute highlight of the compo for me. Massive effort to do what no one else dares to do ( except peskanov of course ;)

No don't! keep on trucking! And i'm super humbled to have my little sofaworld effigy in here :D
Should have placed higher!
I am not convinced about the colors, if you ask my eyes.
More than OK in other aspects.

What nosferatu said!
Nice demo in HAM mode but a bit long
Entertained me greatly in the weirdest of ways and isn't that what a demo should do in the end? :D
Although it is not endorsed with Disney approved colors there is a great wacky quality to this style (think of something like Southpark). Combined with effects that combine effortlessly with the HAM mode it is truly intriguing. Going to rewatch with a spyglass.
ok

Same here. Plus, I had the eerie, cozy-cringe feeling of having this peeled off of a 1992 computer magazine cover. Felt so "PD Software" to the hilt :D
Yet, there was a lot of bona fide HAM kung fu in there that save the thumb.
Artistically-wise the result might be judged as going for "mookay" to "ugly".
RGB-wise, however, some people wouldn't believe this is coming out of a 1985 personal computer <3
FREAKING GREAT ACHIEVEMENT.
May this open a new genre in the Amiga OCS demoscene : HAM demos ?
Bravo.

Just rewatched this and really enjoyed it. Wacky as hell entertaining, clever techniques andgood music.
Loved this.
I don't have an idea about the HAM tricks achieved here, but this was very weird and very very different, I liked it.
Fresh! Should've ranked much higher.
So many original effects. If this was put together little more nice it could be a winner. Loved that eye on the monkey kind of animal. Specially when the eye go everywhere :D Great work and hope to see more from this talented guy. Thanks
I love the wild, anarchic energy of this one!
Great non-standard effects! Should have placed higher!
Lots of trickery going on here. Not everything is pretty, but it sure is a labour of love. I remember AMCAF, your early demos and games, and your MS entries. Cool that you found your way back to the demoscene. I am sure you will get adopted in no time. My favorite part was the laser cube in the desert.
Nice colorful OCE/ECS demo.
I think this was done, covnerting each line of an image to 16 or 32 colors and giving each line (or segment) its own copperlist-colors. However, nice work and nice tricks / ideas you did.

can't judge on the tech side since i don't know amiga architecture that well, but aesthetically this felt really ugly to me overall.
Wow! I thought a couple of years ago about making a game in HAM mode, but thought it would be chaos at bob edges and it would look terrible so I didn't try it. Now this motivates me to actually give it a try. It looks like even when there are artifacts, like in your shadows in the desert or the little bubbles over the lemur, they're not too distracting. I'll have to give it a go! Thanks for the inspiration.
Also I fucking lost it at the bear drawing part... brilliant :)

I think this should have placed higher. I felt like I was tripping watching it and such a strange style (to me) but I really liked it!
Very good piece of code.
Say no to drugs

I only just realised the lemur part was the greetz, I was transfixed by the eyes :D :D
One of the most memorable prods of this year.
I love the 93/94 demo feeling, but I guess few people like that easy going, carefree style.

At first I was not on board at all, but then gradually became more on board as things went on. I'm glad I watched this live, because otherwise I might have skipped it.
couldn't stop grinning at the underselling of quite a variety of effects, while not taking itself as seriously as many amiga demos tend to do.
@platon42:
Thanks for the feedback and the clarification. What can i say? Achieving such effects in HAM mode on the A500 are simply amazing and unbelievable! Great job!

Absolutely nuts. :D
Should have ranked higher.

Quite crappy in many departments but I dig the HAM burger ;)
There is some serious code here, welcome back, Platon42. :)
Im not an Amiga fanboi, but when I saw this, I knew it was special. I thoroughly enjoyed this demo. Awesome stuff!
This needs a big fat warning label "Do not watch on Acid".
It was weird and I still do not know what to think of it. Definitely will stay in my memory. Respect to the author for essentially working on it on his own.
For Amcaf ;-)
I couldn't stop laughing.
Interesting...
Very cool.
Good demo with alot great looking HAM-backgrounds, combined with nice effects. Music also good.

If you want to save some time doing this, I'll happily create a WHDLoad patch for the final version of the demo.

less LSD and dutch colour scheme
Hell no! This is an integral part of the demo experience! I love it just the way it is <3
What grip said <3
Ugly pretty, I really like how strange AND somehow familiar this feels.
Beautiful effects in HAM mode.
Would Mr. Chris not find time for the new AMCAF extension? ;)

Just great production! I was surprised it didn't rank higher in the compo. Together with Melon's entry, for me, it was the best.
Instead of posting lots of text here I have given my feedback in private. Pigge for me.

No way! Same LSD or more, please.
And you should start a new demogroup, think about it... "The Trippy Lemurs (TTL) presents..." :]
Please more! :)
Simply this:

👍 for how it ended
I told you keeping your own vision in everything will be the best. Great original work mate. No matter how it placed, it was the most original.
Didn't work for me at all. Sorry......
Outstanding experimental glitchy HAM stuff this.
what psenough said.
Nice!
Mandatory thumb. Never seen before ham overkill <3
Cool stuff :)
There's some explanation of the effects in the end scroller if you leave it running for a bit. Suffice to say these effects are not straightforward :)
Oh man, I thought I thumbed them all and then forgot about this one. Love to see something so original, great work and now a final version, need to check that soon ;)
👍 final looks more slick
what is special here?
ham isn't magic these days.

Amiga demos won't be the same after this one. You'll need feeble excuses for not frequently using truecolor for effects.
I think this is awesome in more than one way.
*patiently waits for the vidcap of final version because i suck at amiga emulators"
Very nice writeup, thanks for documenting the hardwork!
Dunno about the technicalities and whether it's impressive or not, but it's certainly an eyesore - still, gotta respect the solo effort and the music was pretty decent.
i don't get it but i also have a suspicion there isn't really anything to "get"
platon42: Thanks for the technical write-up. Not having ever coded on the Amiga it's really an interesting read.
i don't think its ugly. I enjoyed this demo on the livestream.
See i forgot to thumb it up, enjoyed at stream and at home! Made a physical disk to keep for easy access, watched many times and will for sure watch again soon :D Great write up technical details also ++++
I think this is somehow the epitome of demoscene - relatively complicated tech on shitty hardware, with an aesthetic that ruins it. Extra cringe for the end scroller.
I do think it IS ugly and I'm glad platon42 joined a group full of talented artists, this is a promise for great demos in the future. This demo is interesting to me as not many demos explored the possibilities of HAM. Sprites over HAM pics are an old thing, such as Ice, but platon42 added some nice ideas, such as adding shading to the cube taking advantage of sprites, or deforming the HAM background.
What Preacher said, except for that the aesthetics totally work for me. Great music too. Watched it three times in a row on real hardware the evening it came out, and several times more.
thanks for the writeup, helps understand the tech behind things. still looks ugly though :)

I really don't get the hate, I fucking love it :D
I guess it's matter of consuming the correct substances before watching it, even if platon42 claims in this tech document that the Amiga Boing Ball animation wasn't done with substances in mind.
This one definitely would go onto the "watch this on LSD to shit your pants" demo show playlist.

Or being Dutch of course, which probably is the same thing.
@Scamp: definately not the same thing ;)
Thumb for efford and comeback!

I am Dutch and I approve of this product.
Seriously though, interesting tech, thanks for the write up!

Did I say anything yet? Nope. Ok.
WTF My old A500 does!!! :D Thats great. Maybe ask for some musician next time but otherwise, thats amazing stuff - albeit not very aesthetic but still.

What legend said. This was kind of a wtf moment in the compo, but after a few more watchings I appreciate it a lot more.
What is going on here? Hot stuff! In particular I like the desert scene
with the UFO cube and the laser beam. It is so weird and surreal.
Platon42, thank you for that outstanding production with its very
unique style; technical write-up appreciated as well.
(German, F familiar, colloquial language "Das ist der HAMmer!")

More of HAMiga demo please!
Wonderful demo!
Just rules. Blew my socks off.
pretty marvelous
Pure coder demo madness. I have to admit the presentation is charming in its own way.
Ugly mish-mash with bad music and found photos. And a wonderfully creative exploration of possibilities and punk middle finger to the jaded styling of fake impossibilities!
On rewatch you get it like you get JCMX, and the charm of the total freedom wins even if you don't care about the effects unlocked by so much work. More than half a dozen firsts here. Great stuff. :)

As far as i know these are not "found" (from the internets?) photos but shot by platon himself at the places in question.
So many amazing fun things you coded, and good text, too. The music in the end is also lovely!
Impressive Blitter subtraction!
wow! even better after reading the write-up.
This is pretty weird :) in a good way. Incredible one-man-work. Respect!
It stands out for its originality and code work.
Shouldavrankedhigher! ✊
Scary and fascinating. Found a footage (see link below) of the desert
cube in the wild - alas (or thank God) without engraving blue ray.
And always remember: "The end is nigh" or "Whoever wins, we loose"
Scully and Mulder, over and out.
