The hell... I like it!
A lot of stuff and great music.
A lot of stuff and great music.
insane
Ihr seid total verrückt!
geil
Very nice 4k
5th place?! WTF.
another amazatronic 4k
I get a constant irritating flicker (RX580), is that intentional?
Otherwise this is pure class even though it builds up to a third act it doesn't have.

5th place? WTF? Namevoting very much. :/
This one was clearly the best entry, both from an artistic as well as from a technical side.
On the big screen this totally flashed me. You could almost feel the heat

Thumb up of course
5th? really? wow the higher placed ones must be out of this world! (checking) errr... wtf
HOW IT COULD BE 5TH, definitely my most fave one throughout the compo
i quite like the Makaham vibe! should've won obviously, it has much more coherent artistic and technical value than the entire top 4 placing above this.
Wait wut? 5th place? That is just unfair: this was the clear winner.
Also what Maali says.
The screenshoit scene could have worked in a regular demo as well. Very nice camera-angles and atmosphere. Fitting music.

I do not agree with the voting results. Keep up the good work.
Great everything (let me ignore the glitches for a moment).

What las said.
Weird results. Pretty good prod. Congrats!
Impressive scene and synth work.
great atmosphere, feels like a wolfenstein game or something
This one blew me away. Solid in every respect.
That this one didn't come in the top 3 is just mind blowing to me.
I don't know what happened with the voting but it is just so off somehow.

What was the legality issue / demoscene police thing?
Ripped music in a 4k?
LJ is a good computer programmer.
Should have won the compo for sure
wicked
excellent intro, definitely deserved a higher ranking.
How is it possible this ends up 5th? Danke Merkel.
Well this was by far the best entry. Did livevoting glitch up at the end of the compo? weird, weird.
what
ÜBER-Intro! True winner for a sofascener like me!
You got robbed, should have won.
This should have ended in the Top 3.
It was probably so mind-blowing that people forgot to vote. I see no other explanation :D
Excellent work!
Excellent work!
5th? why?
thought this would win
All of that packed into a 4k.. Jesus, how did this not win by a landslide on technical prowess alone?? Impressive audio too.
great staf, great stuff
Awesome prod, should have ranked much higher!
You could almost see Gimly moving around in the soaring heat of Moria! :)

epic. 1st.
Very cool sound design (that alone deserves a thumb up), and you might see how much effort is put into visuals.
Still, I couldn't watch it for more than 10 sec. Sorry, it's just SUPER boring. It shows you 4k stuff you've seen so many times and I suspect it's just a super long buildup, so this is what i gotta do: i'll go to twitch and ffwd it some minutes further to see how it will end.

As said in the Evoke live interview....those two guys know how to deliver awesome stuff!
(The glitchy flicker seems to be AMD only.)
My personal favourite from the whole Evoke, really a lot of content, and proper execution in this one. Of course I'd love to see this as a podium finish, but there's always the next party.
der gott, der eisen wachsen ließ
Great visuals and atmosphere.
Something must have been really wrong with voting (honestly, check your system that it didn't have been hacked ;-)). This is incredibly good. Should have won.
No huh huh.
How Eisenerz looks and (probably) sounds like, in 4k. These Virgill & LJ prods are always such a treat.
Breathtaking, as expected from these two
wow
hammer :)
Cool geometry and an atmospheric tune with depth.
Best in the competition. Lamoria In 3D.
Looks and sounds absolutely fantastic. The sudden camera rotations feel a bit out of place though and ultimately it feels slightly pointless, but wow...
yes!
Nice
style!
Cool! I mean, hot!
Awesome! Excellent visuals and great music. 5th place is ridiculous!
meh
no offense to slerpy's prod which is absolutely great as well, this should win. Mind fuck experience to watch it.
One of my favourites from all of evoke <3
Class
My favourite from the compo. Really solid release!
Nice!
Please don't sync cams on beats. Also, the lava needs some doing, it looks rather cheap. And yet, it's quite impressive. I like the scenario as such and the music is pretty badass for 4k especially.
I love the beat sync on the cams, btw. ;)
Adorable smoke and heat distortion and modeling is out of this world. Should definitely have ranked higher.
Black magic
awesome tech
Ihr seid doch bekloppt !
On a more serious note: this should’ve been the clear winner and is a serious candidate for 4k of the year, al least most underrated prod at a party...

Gentlemen, you are nuts.
what chromag said ;D
best "should have won" 2019
the top 4 were amazing too, but this is totally on its own level
Glück auf!
epic and underrated, also totally smooth on my potato box :)
Baracklekvár!
OK.
fett.
Really impressive distance field, and artifact galore. The latter for better and worse, reminiscent of the Calodox *ikum intros that I so love, but doesn't come as close to wrapping me into something as ominous as those worlds. Similarly, funnily enough, the music due to the crude (though still impressive) physical modeling creates a similar aura, albeit the harmony is more grounded to our own realm.
Like a lot of LJ's intros, this cropping only goes so far for me. It's the same basic method employed in most notably Maintenance, Faraday Future and Korolev, which I'd describe as "the calm before the storm". The problem—as I see it anyway—is trying to realize a too elaborate concept in the category. I wouldn't even say it cannot be done, but I feel like at least all of the aforementioned intros along with Eisenerz suffer fatally from ending on a disappointing cliffhanger. There's a dissonance created by the huge buildup that essentially constitutes the entire intro itself, and ending it all on a dramatic final shot of a central visual piece (a MacGuffin, essentially) that is never resolved, but instead just faded away. I think the intention is to build mystery, but the formula has become predictable and doesn't work on me anymore.
I have a feeling this might be due your approach to making 4k intros. As I understand your approach still is to first create the intro "proper", and then cut things away from it until you reach the intended size? I always avoided this method, instead preferring to start from a clean slate and building things on top of what I have already, carefully keeping an eye on the current output size. Both approaches are valid, but I think they also inherently lead to different kinds of intros being made, and I think the syndrome of that manifests as non-thought out endings is very apparent in the "remove all excess afterwards" approach. I think the results in Maintenance and Faraday Future succeeded much better, perhaps Unmaintained did as well.
This is a beautiful marvel of a narrow technical niche, with serious flaws manifesting as both visual artifacts and in the narrative arch. My enjoyment with this formula only goes so far.

Wow!
Wow, the amount of stuff in it is incredible. I'd have personally put less of it and invest more in lighting and/or in a story resolution (I'm in the "too long buildup and no reward at the end" team).
But it's still a super impressive prod, should have been on the top 3 for sure!

I also missed a payoff after the buildup, but I for sure know how difficult that is to pull off and I still agree it's top-3 material and probably deserving of 1st place.
By the way, I notice the heat haze effect is done in screenspace. Is that done in the same pass as the subtle blur, or is it done in another way?

Impressive work
Feels like quite some of the geometry has been seen before in your intros, but still very impressive, and a fitting soundtrack.
Virgill: Quite some D-50 and old Roland drum computer usage for a video from 2002 (?) :D

this entry must win, evoke always surprise us with the voting
...auf Kohle und Stahl gebaut :-) Die gute Ibbenbürener Anthrazitkohle :-)
The coffin surprised me! Really nice.
LJ: fair enough, sorry for some bad assumptions, just trying to conjecture why this didn't work for me as well =)
I thought I was watching preview of a new doom level. Mindblowing natural instruments and rendering!
\m/
Eisenerztic grobe intro!
Great!
Great stuff on Youtube, but crash on start on my Win 7 Ultimate 64 + 660 GTX driver 431.60.
very impressive
Een leuke ervaring. Great!
this is very good stuff
Awesome production and clear should-have-winner. LJ should consider renaming himself to Dante if he continues to make this type of stuff with Virgil.
Soo much honey poured into 4k! <3
very very good!
wow. awesome.
Nice style!
So cool :)
I dived into it. Great stuff.
Very good for a 4K - so much stuff packed into it
Very great
So little disk space, so much atmosphere!
Awesome :)
Insanely good, both music and visuals.
Voting at Evoke was a joke. Ought to have won.
5th place for this masterpiece is just unfair in comparsion to the higher ranked 4k intros. For me, this intro should got the 1st place!
i wasn't very impressed the first time i saw it, but it liked it a lot now.
Looks good, to bad there's this permanent darkening flickering on my Radeon 6900
Great metallic sound and superb visuals . One of my favorite 4ks.
Horrific. Perfect.
omg.
this think is perfect.
Should have ranked higher!
