Filesize vs content thumb. Sorry.

Nice! Assembly wouldn't be the same without the annual Pyrotech demo. I really liked the shot where spaceships roam a barren planet surface.

looked awesome on stream but wait, 1.5 GiB? O_o

Sorry for the ridiculous file size. This is what you get when nobody's babysitting the artists.

:D

The demo isn't bad but it just doesn't have the hook to keep your attention.

shouldve have won, but, yeah, 1.5GB for _THAT_? unreal engine doesn't do geometry instancing? :P
1.5 GB

The same static rotate-the-particle-system-around-a-torus effect or whatever it is throughout the entire demo. 68 MB of UE4 engine and 1268MB of assets, seemingly mostly flybys. And are those the same robot animations as in the Ekspert demos, or is it just a homage? :-)

Sorry, I can't give this anything else than a thumb down.

You won second place in the Assembly demo compo within the given rules and limitations, but you failed to please the Pouet peanut gallery... 1.5GB? LOL

In 10 years' time someone will do a 64k version
rulez added on the 2019-08-04 22:40:34 by mop mop
not bad but you should have at least mix the song out to sound decent because the content is there

solid work.

I like licorice a lot. I also like strawberries, olives, oat yoghurt and those sprinkly things you put on ice cream. This demo feels like all of those put into a blender and turned into a non-tasting mush, from where you can find a nice crunchy piece of licorice or maybe one sprinkly thing if you try hard enough. The rendering is nice at parts, the gears scene looks good taken out of context, the music might be great in a demo that paid even a little bit of attention to it and the yellow/brown version of the polar mapped raymarchy thing appeals to my geek sensibility.

But as a demo put together? Absolutely, totally meh. You have the tools and the tech, please make something even remotely interesting with it. And while I'm not the person to bitch about filesize, for 1.5 gigabytes I'd just download a VHS rip of three seasons of Friends and watch those instead. It's a lot more fresh than this.

lots of good work on the graphics, especially liked the gears

i have to admit though, i thought you finally had crafted a new engine to replace terribly aged DX9 one

The moment has come finally, that I've been talking about for years, when the real file size is far bigger than crystal celar video rip of the production. Sorry guys, I'm with Preacher, however would prefer to get Terminator II Director's cut version in 1,5GB file.

As for the demo itself I've watched it live on stream and lost attention very quickly. Meh is the best.

For the record, the compo rules said there's no fixed size limit, but it should be "something that fits on an average USB stick". So 1.5 GB is not even close.

Interesting stuff

effects were pretty nice, the jumping robots kind of broke the mood it had been setting though. but well done overall.

some kickass drumming there. nice to see scifi style which is not blue.

That gears scene! Wonderful! Don´t care about the file size as long as it stays in the rules :)

Cool demo but I guess I'll download the YouTube's video instead.

This 1.5Gb size is hilarious. Can you do a final version in less than 128Mb at least?

Even 2GB usb sticks are already deprecated, this is not a valid argument. The filesize is terrible. With careful procedural modelling this could have been a 64k.
I like the demo, which saves it from a thumb down.

Why whine about the size when it is what was asked for. What you're supposed to do now is this: you see the entries and you think that it's not the maximum that can be done with the allowed resources, and then you start learning and trying to make something better. Which in your opinion must be fairly _easy_?
added on the 2019-08-05 19:14:48 by yzi yzi
its a perfectly fine demo but indeed nothings excuses it being bigger than 100mb

Many individual components look good, but not so much together (gears + tunnel). The dancing guy (yeah, this guy danced in the Ekspert demo) is what adds to the dynamic and elevates the whole thing.
Other than that, okish demonstration of what unreal (or is it unity?) shaders can do. Not sure what to make of it, not the best pyrotech but not bad either.

Starts promising and then..... "yay! Spaceships! Let's run and jump around!"

Well, I enjoyed the uber-voxelball thing and there are some nice assets in here. Otherwise I'm not sure what to feel about the combination of it all.

Ooooh I have no idea what has happened to your filesize but the cog section deserves my upvote in anyway

so far the best pyrotech demo.

Kinda looks like an avarage 2005 demo remade in Unread Engine. Not bad, but also not great.

Say what you want but Pyrotech *again* delivered and maybe you did not? :)

Keep on rocking!

A few kind of nice (if oldfashioned) looking scenes towards the middle. Other than that, can't think of anything I enjoyed. Incoherent cheesy content, ugly colour schemes, bland music, filesize.. Sorry, not for me.

well, I'll dread the timeline when decent YT video captures have a smaller filezize than the demo itself.
As for the content ... rather meh'ish ... not good, not terrible

The Fileziles due to Unreal engine, but some great music and particle effects and a robot
Looks like a winner demo from 2020 ;) Made me smile, love the tunnel and especially the tech and gorgeous lighting in the cog/clockwork scene... this makes me want to pick up coding 3d again... Respect!

looks okay, mostly boring content, nice dof. VERY nice music (okay, might be a bit cheesy but it works for me today) and a size for all those who say you have to watch a demo on its platform and not on yt :D
Nice scenes and great music. Filesize sucks, but I enjoyed the show and that’s all which counts for me. Did I already mention I really liked the music?

Just for scene heritage reasons i want to point out that there was no particles used in this this demo. All coded effects are noise + distance field stuff :)
