I like this prod, it's kinda funny. It kicks off with some kind of epic story, and then unexpectedly turns into the grove of disco. You should have seen my face when I saw that for the first time. Entirely in 3D, just letting know those with alergic reactions to 3D demos. I still keep this demo in my HD, there must be a reason. Watch it and find it out yourself.

Nice one, again a software demo. This I think is their funniest so grab it, it looks older on the shot than running.

Nice graphics, good music and fun!
The music is great and really feat with the demo. It is a good one but the modeling are really bad some times (especialy the disco dancer... :/)

Hmm... on the big screen, this looked much better than on a monitor. In my eyes, it didn't really deserve the first place (in front of "State of Mind"), as the disco idea was good for a laugh or two, but otherwise, it's yet another boring 3d demo, of the most obvious kind. Sorry.

Very funny story and great 3d visuals! Cool!

-What are these Nomad guys doing now?

-Is it Moai or Moao anyway?

bah! how could this beat state of mind in the democompo? maybe I just didn't understand the "humour" that's supposedly in there, but this is yet another boring 3d-show. download if you like those, if not, go for state of mind instead.

Well.

That's the kind of demo organizers like to put after the 6 dead boring demos in a compo to wake people up again.
If it's kinda funny, people will remember it. And never underestimate that... people don't vote for prods they don't remember :)
added on the 2001-08-05 03:58:27 by ryg ryg
Ryg is right. It beat State of Mind for the same reason that Glon 243 was destined to kick whatever competition's ass it would face: it was funny the first time you watched it, and it stuck with the audience. Apart from SOM there were at least three other products that were superior releases at TP98 that outlasted the long-term appeal of this one.

I was sitting there thinking 'Yeah, this one will certainly win', even though we all knew at the time that it would be less funny the sixth time we ran it =)

Still, kudos for the way they amused my at the time.

HAR,HAR,HAR!!!!Fucking great...Very funny demo...nice gfx, code and music...the whole transition from temple staff to disco was really funny and great as a concept....

Yep, it is very funny! The soft 3D engine look kinda jerky sometimes, but is also heavily used in this demo. A good production, although State of Mind is undoubtably better.

Yes, this is an amusing demo, but only the first half. It starts of with a good atmosphere, then turns nice 'n' silly.

But after the main bit there is a long and somewhat dull second half with greets and credits and stuff. This part did have some good ideas, but for me the 'meat' of the production was in the first section. I personally would have cut the ending in half...

This Windows demo was released in a time then at least 80% of all releases were still for MS-DOS. So, I remember it mostly for one of the first good windows demos available.

Today, it's only enjoyable in windowed mode (double size). In fullscreen it's just to much anti-anti-alaising :)

excellent production !!!!!!!!!
very good travel in the crazy mind of the conceptors :)
the bad things : the end gfx sucks a lot, i understand real names for a job research prod but ....
the good things : all the rest !!!!!
design, music, code, scenes, textures etc ... very good top50 prod for me !

Nice demo, I liked the idea (but no way is better than "State of Mind"), but the disco scene goes slow as hell in my config.

i remember watching this at tp, and when the place transformed into a disco, the crowd went wild... great moment...

nice muzik - both electro and disco part.. ofcourse i didnt expect disco as well but the idea to change serious theme to a funny one is as old as the art (?) is

There is also a DOS executable, so it should be stated as DOS + Windows in the platform section. Anyway, very good and quite funny demo. And disco is still not dead ;)

Didn't find it too amusing, i think i'd seen same concept in some previous demos. But quite nicely made, soft 3d engine was good for the time (if a bit wobbly). I didn't like it enough for a rules, but it certainly doesn't suck :)

i saw this on the bigscreen an was quite impressed. the ending "making of" part is somewhat lengthy. cool 3d engine!

Havent watched it for years and I still enjoy it despite the low resolution.
Excellent software 3d engine for its time and excellent ideas.

French discotouch ;)

Boring. I was SO disappointed when I downloaded TP releases and saw what sort of a production won it. Boring 3d show.

boring, eventless, overused same "disco" theme...

May have been something technically back in it's heyday and if I liked storydemos it might be a fair representative of it's genre.

plain 3d and a cheesy story. quite ok for 98´ ;)

Well, it's a little bit outstanding production from 1998. It has a storyline (funny and surprising), not only visual effects for themselves. Scenes are made with attention. It even runs on actual operating systems.

First thought: wow, quite moodyish for its time
Second thought: no, don't please make a disco demo out of it, its ridiculous
Third thought: damn, that still works for me :D

The first few minutes were quite interesting and moody.. and then we enter major wtf zone. I must applaude this. The demo has a certain whimsy to it which is lacking in most of the "taking ourselves way too seriously" diarrhea-textured flybys of the era.
