I so loved the merging and transitions of scenes. Whole design left a lot of room for imagination which is usually a good thing. Imo totally underrated

Very nice flow :) One of the highlights from the PC demo compo.

Anyone has perhaps the music for this one?

felt a bit rushed, has lots of potential.

Bad screenshot, great demo. I really enjoyed those water particles.

typical adapt demo. awesome scenes intermixed with not so memorable ones. i love that they found a style of their own but feels like we seen it before already, maybe it's needing a shake up somehow?

The code is really nice but it overstays its welcome somewhat.

4th place was a bit of a surprise. would've guessed 1st or 2nd. still has the a bit chaotic design trademark from Adapt in there :)

@sagacity - exatcly what you've said. 2:30 with a punch would save this. Loads of future potential though.

Basically what ps and sagacity said, but I still enjoyed this a lot. It's like almost every Adapt demo is just that tiny bit better and more focused than the previous ones, but some kind of bigger push or shaking things up would be nice.

Definitely has its boring and even ugly moments, but also has nice water.

Killed the stream, but what I saw looked awesome. Hoping for a high-bitrate capture coming out.

Deepr and I talked about the demo at length after the prizegiving, and we both agreed it was largely held back by multiple questionable design choices. The soundtrack is definitely a highlight and keeps everything together—great work, Basscadet!

My take on it is that you should decide among yourselves which one of you has the most developed sense of style and direction and let them have the final and immutable say on these matters. :) Zoomin already proved that a demo didn't need mindblowing effects to be successful—it was the Adapt demo that had a clear, consistent idea and delivered on it without trying to do ten different things at once.

Overall nice, although there are some weak spots here and there.

Like most of your prods, this is really underrated.
There may be some improvements in pacing the music (no change in tempo at all - maybe tone it down in greets/clouds scene as an example so you can buildup again later on) and effects (some at the beginning are just sensory overload and you'd be much better off starting with a few particles instead of thousands to wow the viewer what your tech can do, when you crank up the particle count) but effects and transitions rock. :)

uhhh almost everything is well not polished in terms of style, tastes bad, You might need a designer?

@FMS_cat thanks for your creative and constructive feedback.

Now, I have to disappoint you a bit as we actually have superb designers in our demo group already. The thing with this demo is that it is coming mostly from deepr grounds, fueled by extreme party coding of almost 40h coding in a row. For example the whole timeline Surfaced from 0s to the full length 350s visuals during the last night before deadline at the super kewl Revision 2019 demo party. Big thanks goes to the Revision orgas of providing free coffee all party long.

But, as said I appreciate your exceptional creativity in commenting our demo. Sorry for the bad taste, might not leave your taste sensors in instant.

@deepr I see! I know your tech is very high in anyway, I hope I can see more optimized one in creative way

I love the sound track in this, the messiness of the motion and a few of the scenes (like the angel in the stars), but it feels in many ways unfinished. the sky boxes in the first half drag the eye away from the effects you have in the foreground because they just don't seem to fit, and some of the transitions have brief moments of clashing colours that I don't like.

the party coding explains a lot of my complaints though, I really hope you do a final or a remix that keeps the mess and just polishes a bit :)

Nice shaking particle effects

I like most of the Adapt demos. This one was maybe a little "messy" demo, but for example the water effect was superb, some nice tricks here and there also with good music makes this a great demo in the end :) Adapt has their own unique style, but like some others said, maybe doing something else next time would give better results?

too messy for me.

All over the place but lots of awesome effects; I particularly loved the logo rotating around and affecting particles. Cool stuff!

Typical adapt, in a good way, but also in some notably bad ways. The key shortcoming again is not the amount of content or its quality, but how it's figuratively just dropped on the floor and kicked around a bit until it makes even a bit of sense. There's of course a lot of synchronization and editing going on here, I know the pain, but it also way too telling how the content was put together at the last minute.

Despite that, there's some beautiful visuals here, and the music is of course great as Basscadet's stuff tends to be. Especially towards the end the physics and particle lighting (done with deep opacity shadowmaps or something?) really present themselves nicely; it's a joy to watch. In general the second half is much more enjoyable, properly picking up the pace of the music. I enjoyed this more than most of the entries in the compo.
rulez added on the 2019-05-09 11:35:28 by noby noby
@noby: the particle shadowing is based on implementing "particle shadow maps" from as roughly described by Nvidia for example here: Particle shadows and cache efficient post-processing pdf

Of course we have added our own spices on top of that, for example enabling the psm to work hand in hand with traditional shadow maps - providing shadows between particles and other 3d geometries.

There is a lot room for improvement in what we have done so far with that tech, so stay tuned! 8)

Those particles that get thrown around by the logo object are really cool!
Music is also nice. It especially shines in the later part of the tune.

A bit overwhelming amount of stuff going on though without a very strong sense of purpose (it is a demo, not supposed to be Ibsen, but I feel some kind of plausible demo world could have been achieved with this engine).
