Fairlight - Oikeiden voileipäkeksien koti!
rulez added on the 2003-11-10 22:02:41 by break break
Well its neatly designed and im sure there is a lot of work behind it. I feel sorry for thumbing it down, but its simply too boring, and the low-res aliasing kind of ruined it.

I liked it too. Not much content, but the DOF effect looked great on screen at least.

well, someone added this after all, so here we go :)

first off, the tune is completely destroyed because of minifmod.
here's what it's supposed to sound like: http://reed.planet-d.net/tunes/flt-plants.mp3

secondly, it's got problems running properly on at least geforce fx cards, works fine on my gf4 tho. and apparently there's some nasty bug with hogging up the memory, but smash can probably elaborate on that :)

also, duckers, obviously the intro itself wasn't much work at all, the tools were :) read the nfo.

Doesn't work right on my Radeon 9000, and they choice of color is quite binary in my case - read B/W ;-)

I second rarefluid. Same thing here on my Radeon9000.

I didn't like the visuals one bit, however the music was kinda intersting.

Hmm.. GF4 Ti4200 here, and I see everything except that text. So I'll hold on the thumb.

doesnt work

This almost gets a thumb up just for working on my shitty gf4mx when it needs pixel shaders. But then it looks bugly, so i'll wait to see it properly.

Tune is good at least, even if it doesn't sound like it's supposed to.
added on the 2003-11-11 10:45:18 by psonice psonice
damn, looks like this made it here in the end..

<excuse>

here's what happened:
- we made a load of nice tools (mesheditor, texturegenerator, softsynth)
we wanted to test the tools in a quick little intro, to make sure they work nicely together (rather than try to make something big, and find that they didnt).
reed made a very nice tune for it. unfortunately i didnt spend enough time on the visuals (the intro was made very quickly), but we decided to release anyway.
regrettably, its fucking boring. if it had 3 times as much content and the visuals fitted with the music (and an actual artist had done the gfx), it might have been ok.

as for it not working: if your card supports pixelshader 1.1 and vertexshader 1.1, it should be ok. i didnt use anything non-standard, and didnt have any driver problems myself. plus, i didnt code any fallbacks because im a bad person, sorry.
if you get weird looking results or have any msg boxes come up (if you do, its fucked), please do send bug reports, cos i want to fix them for next time.

anyway, as reed said in the compo: its a tools test, expect some real intros from us soon :)

</excuse>

somehow I didn't like it. maybe it was just too boring. those meshes and so on were cool though, so it get's a pigface.

i get the black screen!
design and music doesn't fit... too bad 'cause the 2 are good but not together...

Can't see it, but the mp3 is actually rather enjoyable.

I think reed will be instantly hired by dxm when they hear this music... 8)
for the 'test of the tools' this is pretty okay. now get to work on the big thing, smash, we want it... 8) oh, and it worked (seemingly) flawless on my gf3ti200.

it seems to be aiming for a certain style, but lacks a certain polish. Too bad the song got messed up (see Reed's comment)

You've definetely got the style dudes! I enjoyed this intro. Refreshing. Especially nice to see such an old scene brand being revived with quality content. Waiting for future releases!

"DOF"? proper depth of field is something different than one layer of blurred objects above one layer of even more blurred objects, reko :)

anyway, decent enough intro. the music was kinda annoying, but i haven't heard the mp3 version yet :). as for the actual intro - not bad, i didn't find it overly boring either. okayish intro overall, but not enough for a rulez.
added on the 2003-11-12 01:30:55 by ryg ryg
It's ok for a test. But now i'm pissed 'cause i had the same idea of doing a fake-dof :)

ok demo, seen this many times be4 doe. I like the colors in it and some effects. But it used pretty long time to load here (1.4ghz 512mb ram) and i think theres so much use of "space effect" in the music.

i'd like to point out that this intro is kind of cool. nothing new, nothing breathtaking, but a nice test of the tools. still a piggy until you make a non-ps-version ;)

very neat, but sometimes slow on my GeForceFX :(
added on the 2003-11-12 11:48:59 by elkmoose elkmoose
Waste of a perfectly good tune. Ok DOF-effect but otherwise pretty uninteresting. Looking forward to see what you really can do with your tools though.
added on the 2003-11-12 17:53:41 by a_lee_n a_lee_n
Objects and music seems to come out of a dream... i dont like both.
But blurry effects are nice to look at.
Also running pretty smooth on my 800 (Gf4ti).
added on the 2003-11-12 22:14:18 by g00cy g00cy
The ultra-gay soundtrack is a plus. The fact that the intro is completely unwatchable on a Radeon 9700 is not.

Shifter: It worked perfectly on my Radeon9500, so you may want to update some random drivers.

"greetings to elites - fuckings to lamers" good that you send fuckings to yourself, because this production sucks so much that it is unbelievable. its a weak excuse saying we just tested some tools... the design, the sound it just sucks! sorry - but i have expected something better from fairlight ;(

Pointless and slow. Reed's music is boring (as always).
sucks added on the 2003-11-27 22:45:09 by JDruid JDruid
Yeah dammit Reed. Music that sounds in tune and has a melody is so boring. Learn to string some white noise together and drown it out with a drum riff!

Tsk tsk! Amateurs!
booring! but it's nice to see that more and more tools are coming, this will raise the standard in the 64k-scene

cool visual and cool music.
however, some scene boring.
however, still thumbs up.
rulez added on the 2004-06-20 13:50:28 by got got
i'd like to emphasize that the music is not cool because it's seriously bugged in the intro, and we're not releasing a final because the whole intro was basically a tools test. for a "how-it's-supposed-to-sound-like" version of the music, see my earlier comment.

Not awful. Annoyed me by not resetting my screen res + colors when exiting - I was left with a black screen.

Quite good intro, not really boring but it lacks a bit in content. Visual design could've been done better (the messages are really hard to read) but for a short test the result is good.
good music, boring visuals
