Interessting.. Is it possible to play the whole HVSC SID collection with some preconfigured "midi setups"? The song is 100% over the top for some 3 channel tune.. Dunno how you converted the sid registers to actual midi "values".. :) Should be fun to listen to games with this setup.. I suppose the driver takes a lot of mem, though.. (I hope I am not mistaken in thinking that you convert the sid registers to midi messages!)
You'd get some sort of output but it wouldn't be very nice. The driver knows it has a new note by checking when a sid gate is enabled again after being disabled previously. Any notes that stay in those states (which is usually used for pitch shift or tied notes) will be ignored. On the other hand when mixing sid + midi outputs with the same data you can get both to do different things. The driver only takes 4kb, but it can take a lot of rastertime because you have to wait to send each midi byte across.

This demo requires a midi cartridge of either the Sequential or Datel
type, or you can use the VICE emulator. There are also a few modern carts that support the Datel protocol. For the demo an 8580 SID chip is preferred.
General MIDI sound can vary between different devices, and latency between
midi and the sid can vary between devices. So if you just want to hear the
