Really nice long SW themed C64 demo :)
rulez added on the 2018-11-04 13:51:27 by Queen_Luna
I've rarely disliked a good demo this much. The SW stuff with bad jokes and pop culture references is old and stale and the amount of quality content doesn't save it. Still piggy, because it really is pretty good.
Only just gets my thumb... not the strongest demo in the competition IMHO
I fucking hate Star Wars and it's not like this took a particularly original approach with the theme or anything. Enough quality content for a thumb up regardless. Btw, a "Star Wars demo" without a Star Wars scroll, what's up with that?

Thought the same. Rulez nevertheless.
Good gfx
That is Max Rebo to the left, but the band on stage is Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes
If you're gonna score points by making a fandom-demo, at least get the canon right.
(Unless there's a joke in there somewhere hidden deep enough for me not to care to find it after the Jabba-fart-joke made me lose interest.)
Tacky, but I liked it <3
Kinda lost the powerful tempo at the end but it all still amounts to a cool fan demo with some great graphics design, animation and effects. And most of those John Williams covers are interesting.
Wow people are mad about Star Wars. Dang! Loved the demo!
Never liked the Star Wars stuff, but this one represents a warn and sincere act of unconditional love with fantastic themes' covers, incredible graphics effort, hi-quality linking and super solid coding.
Pretty okay. Should have deserved a nice second place after Bonzai.
Great demo. Great execution. Next stop - STAR TREK: TNG ?? I'd love to see that one :D
nice one
Awesome. Also music was incredible.
The force is strong in this one.. greetz to all my friends in censor!

No Jar Jar.
Too long and somewhat boring. Nice graphics though.
Eddie?
Modern classic! Love it!
This weekend was an amazeballs awesomesauce releases and this was one of them. Feels like Hallowgivingmas, thank you for all the great work.
entertaining homage, bit too long :-)
Even not being big fan of Star Wars movie, I like this!
this is pure love to the subject, both the movie and the platform. Nevertheless did I spot (Leisure) Larry winking around the bar?
Well ok.
The Force is strong with this one!
Empire approved :)
Quality
Effects on 2nd part is really cool!
Thank you guys to make us dream on the 64 like in the good old days ! Very nice demo !
what Preacher said, it's as if it's conceptualized by a 12 year old
Nothing wrong with concept, if a bit stale though. When tech and art is in order, the concept doesn't matter that much either.
That said, Bonzai should've won this one and can't believe the lack of SW scroll indeed.

I've only seen a youtube version linked earlier on facebook, so I'm not sure if that was the final demo version.
There was some awesome graphics and sound, but to me it looks like it was rushed for release because it lacks the usual smooth transitions of C64 demos, there are some visual glitches here and there visible for a couple of frames, and yes, the second part loses the focus and just go back to pure demo effects.
Maybe a 101% version with transitions fixes and maybe some effects removed, and yes, with a star wars scroller :D

Was that the guy from Iron Maiden in the space ship lol? And Le Chuck. This comedy star wars theme works for me.
I like that part where they are watching a hologram and again the "progressive moveable or is it infinite bobs part" torus.

Sorry for ranting about that demo. It might be just that I am just the total opposite of a Star Wars fan and can't appreciate the topic (especially for a winner demo). What Preacher said.
I hate star wars (with no capitals any more) for the two episodes of the new trilogy. I loved Star Wars and I loved LucasArts prods.
The demo is solid anyway. Cheers!

People who get hung up on lack of star wars scrollers or other non-canon content are humorless nerds who can go suck it.
As for the demo itself:
- The star wars theme is stale and corny.
- But there's so much high-quality content that it doesn't really matter.
- Seriously though, farting Jabba was too corny even for me (and I'm like 12 in the head).
- The demo felt a bit low on *effects*, especially for a Censor prod (but on the other hand it's a lot more visually consistent than normal..) The best bits are really cool though.
All in all I think the right demo won. (2nd place was also great but the pacing and all those scrollers didn't really do it for me).

for the amount of work put into this
Well, Im not a Star Wars™ fanboy either, but I sure enjoy the _good_ movies as much as the next guy.
For this demo I find a lot of things all kinds of awesome:
- the coherent theme (a lot of demos with a theme abandon it half way through for a fx show)
- the pace (no scene was put on for too long)
- the humor (yes, I even go with the farting jabba...)
- the score (some very very nice SID-covers in there!)
However what puts me down a bit is the pixelgfx:
While Im sure it was a lot of work and theres also great art in this demo I couldnt help but find some of the characters, esp. the faces a bit too much in the uncanny valley. Also the spaceship models seem a bit rushed here and there.
There have been so many great gfx in the other top-demos of X that I hardly understand why this part has apparently gotten the least of love... Maybe ask an additional pixel guy next time or something?
All in all still a great demo and Im really in no position to bitch, just sharing my thoughts.

Beatiful
So fuckin' awesome at so many levels. Great job done in all department, and was a real close call in the compo, but in the end it was a worthy winner for me. So many memorably entries at X again, really feeling sentimental seeing so much love towards this 8-bit computer. Those top5 entries really blew me away.
enjoyed it a lot. very competent interpretations of the original music, super enjoyable on SID. I'm too newskool to say much about any tech achievements, but the overall experience rocks, and it works very well as a megademo, without stretching it too far with overly long scrolly parts or anything. Farting jabba and purple tentacle are a nice touch of humor :D This really motivates me to get my ye olde c64 back to working order and watch it on the actual machine.
Maybe farting Jabba also references to RSI megademo? Dunno.
two people prefer star trek over star wars.
Neat. :D
Cronos from Venom called. he says it's "In the name of Satan, we'll take what we NEED", not "want" :D
loved all the references (and Eddie!) well done!

such a great phun demo with awesome nostalgic music
Awesome. Love it!
I've got a good feeling about this!
Very entertaining :)
Excellent graphics but as a demo it lacks some cool effects.
Slummy: if you can't get a simple joke then please do consider sucking it yourself ;)
why not
Yeah!
..........
That's very cool!
Good demo!
very lovely details and the music is incredible... :) But credits should go to John Williams. Remixed by LMan etc... ;)
Can't write d64 using opencbm, any suggestions??
nice
Very very enjoyable! Great work, guys!
i don't care about star wars at all. but i liked the scene with the rotating bars with spaceships flying on top and the vinyl gfx the most. but the overall theme is just not my cup of tea. oink.
absolutely magic=64! <3
Really nice.
Star Wurst!
a huge amount of technical skill, care and craft (a few of the music renditions are quite striking and beautiful) poured into something that ultimately feels quite forgettable and not thought out
it feels more like a love letter to nerd culture in general as opposed to star wars, which honestly makes it more appealing in a way
if only there was a sense of self-awareness

Cool stuff
Awesome piece of work!!!
Very cool, nice Cantina SID rendition too, lot's of style and humour, and a lot of fun :-)
Well..
It's all nicele executed, the code, music and graphics are tight af. But.
the big but. Butt.
Yeah. It's basically mostly butt.
It could have been so much better if it wasn't 'cos of one of the most milked and raped themes from the last 30 years. It feels like fanservice. Like, weren't you confident enought that you could get enough votes if you thought up a theme on your own?
The demo is very good in its own, if it weren't fore the extremely tired and watered down theme.
Yes, I know that I'm late to the party. I haven't got my sorry and lazy ass to write some kind of review for this yet, but I had to, sooner or later.
C'mon Censor. You can do it.

Fuck. Forgot to give it the motivational thumbs down, so here you go!
