Fuck yeah. My fave from the compo!
i liked this one the best of the top 3. hope to see more from this duo!
i love how musically there is a solid spine on which chord progressions give a spin of madness, plus the fact how the demo is a 2-parter with the different sounding tune.
i was lost a bit at the 'it' reference and the demoscene poetry, but the part with the plugs and the 'cardboard skull' were a jawdropper.
MORE PLEASE!

probably the best comeback on pc scene ever. incredibly stunning, and dune's music is fucking ace!
welcome back =)
So happy to have you guys back, this is very, very good :) When Dune goes "full Dune" in the credits scene, I almost fainted.
nice one
this is massive! and the credits are the shit!
Beautiful, amazing. Can't believe this didn't place second. Don't even care that it's UE. The only thing I didn't like was the glenz stuff.
If you are making a demo with UE, please declare so on your composlide and in your nfo. “PC Nvidia, Mad Skills” is not a suitable platform description.
As for the demo itself, it completely drowned for me due to being placed after ASD. I'll need to re-watch it when there's a capture out.

Incredibly satisfying demo. Welcome back guys!
The cardboard skull.. whoaaa...

Nice comeback.
Welcome back indeed. The skull part was out of this world.
Problems:
1. UE should be declared.
2. I have found some of the symbolic representations to be a bit too obvious / naive.
3. DNA has major/minor groove (just phase-shift one of those damn helices a bit).
Other than that, I really like the flow and the style. So actually - keep it up!

My fave. Fantastic visuals and especially the main part tune is soooo great...
This is a good demo. I thought the clown was proper scary.
Also, and here's something other competitors may learn from: IT DOES NOT TAKE TOO LONG.

Impressive comeback.
I dont care about UE4 or not.
Music is ace. Visuals also.

Well that was a let down. I was so hyped when I saw it, the music, the visuals were just epic. Than came the scnee with the skull! Hyped stuff man, Ace! The atmopshere, the colors. Subtle text. Everything fitted nicely. What I comeback I thought!
So yeah than I figured out you guys just ripped UE . Pfff. It seems to be the norm these days since Pyrotech did the same. I should thumb it down but it is just too nice to do that. Piggie instead.

nice comeback!
a bit lingering for my taste but hey, nop notch stuff!
also lol @ crying about the engine

Yeah what the fuck is that about, people whining about UE shouldn't give Fairlight a pass either. Own engine? Blow me, that thing was made as a commercial product.
It does not matter, making demos like this is still a time consuming art. Some people just decide not to spend it on boilerplate code.

A huge megademo.
There's absolutely no point in making a demo in unreal engine. Why not make it in 3D studio then? Unreal demos belong to the wild compo, not the demo compo.
MASSIVE intelligent soundtrack. Could listen to the main theme for hours and hours.
This is my winner. It's the perfect stream of consciousness demo that tickles the synapses in my subconsciousness. I don't think the symbolism was too obvious or naive for the most part either. The audio is nothing but sublime... iI've had that sinewave melody in my head the entire day.
Also UE is free to win over anyone's lame demoscene code. Suck it nerds.

Great come back guys!...
Mmmmmm. Those colors. That skull scene is just such visual candy. And I don't even like skulls in demos.. The music is pure <3 (as always).
Also, I'd love to have the credits part as a screensaver :D Could watch it all day on repeat..

Yeah but it their own commercial product. It started out as a demoenigne. But even if that wasn't the case they coded every line themselfs. Sure by now they have expanded and others have chipped in, but Notch isn't comparable with UE in the way it related to the scene. UE was never ment to make demos with. Notch is the other way around: in the beginning I'm quitte sure they never thought they would tour the world over with Beyonce and Coldplay. UE is targeted to serve gamers as endusers.Yeah what the fuck is that about, people whining about UE shouldn't give Fairlight a pass either. Own engine? Blow me, that thing was made as a commercial product.
I made some cash as well by vj'ing using our own demos made with our own engine. I know serveral other groups who operate along the same line. The line is blurred soemtimes. Nothing wrong with making money right?

Agreed. No one should be forced to write boilerplate code, but at least give credit wehere credit is due.It does not matter, making demos like this is still a time consuming art. Some people just decide not to spend it on boilerplate code.

You were never meant to put code in PE headers either or play back PCM on a C64. UE is used for multitude of use cases many of which resemble the demoscene anyway.
this is what it looks like if an amiga born concept is taken to the modern age.
orange!
orange!
I can't get excited about big demos these days, but thanks for all the demos. Motivational thumb.
Very enjoyable!
yeah, that clown was scary :)
Glorious. I figured with Der Piipo behind the wheel they used some kind of demo engine, but to get to this level, that's ok with me. Destop and Mazor drive most of the CNCD/FLT content these days too. And it actually runs at a decent framerate. Also, what Leia said.
\orange/
Looks absolutely fantastic! Very happy to see some Der piipo gfx again. I like this birth of the demoscene clown thing. The ripped apart skull effect was really sweet.
10 million hot magma particles, new world record.
float robot float!
a diamond of a product <3
Loved it! Needs more care and attention to scene coherence and direction but so crisp and visually pleasing with a distinct style.
so glad you floated back, never thought I'd get to see another orange demo.
what's going on at assembly? everyone doing demos like they are 16 again? surely there was something odd in the drinks!!!! hot magma is surely hot
Great
So much happiness... Makes we wanna cry! Orange is back!
Yes, god bless success, never forsake the soul
I very much hope that you won't discouraged by the silly discussion of the appropriateness of your toolchain. The demo is very nice, bright and varied. My only slight complaint is about the glitches: they seemed a little too regular and predictable.
Nice! Runs fast on my pc, that's cool! :)
Orange! Ohh... The memories.. Nice one :)
Orange! Ohh... The memories.. Nice one :)
UE or not, the visuals are awesome!
Sweet!
Best in show.
Beginning up until 1:40 was so bonkers good it defies imagination, but then that direction was kind of lost. Might be just my impression though, and that's nitpicking anyway, since this was huge.
O_o--b
More! 🤩
I don’t care about the tools used, the result is fantastic!
This makes mes feel the same as the Andromeda comeback long time ago - my childhood heroes are back but it's different from what one would expect. It's not off-kilter bitmap effects, minimalism and funny bitmaps, but something completely different. And it's marvellous, very demolike in the oldschool sense and completely 2018. And in that same old spirit.
I love it.
I love it.
Couldn't care less about the tools used to make this demo. It's just a beautiful piece of art which I truly enjoyed.
Welcome back - I missed you! :)
Nice, but... UE.
really nice prod, but it feels like it's lacking direction.
Marvelous work. I'm glad you're back!
2Dune: one note bass line ;)))
this one is so cool, soundtrack and visuals - love it!

Huge thumb up for that soundtrack. Somewhere between Aes Dana and Vangelis? No idea, but I totally got lost in it while watching. Nice having a "second track" for the credits part. Personally, UE is no problem imho, but credit where credit is due.
Cool demo.
This was a mixed bag with tons and tons of very different scenes.
Dug the underwater scene tons and tons and the skull that gets ripped to pieces.
Seems that you have some nodes with concentrated loads and gravity.

@anix: thanks!
Demo is awesome but, unfortunatelly, I have to give piggy for using Unreal Engine. IMHO that engine and its counterparts should be officialy excluded from demoscene, unless prod is classified as wild.
great stuff overall but end credits music is just magical.
Orange is back with glitch
Good one. Actually a very good one. I just wish someone didn't get a stroke at this hand part :)
@anix: thanks for this!
exactly what preacher said!
Brilliant! My personal favourite from the democompo.
Just wondering: This demo has 215 downloads from scene.org so far. How come only 215? Shouldn't a top 3 demo from Assembly get far more attention? What's happened? I recall back in 1998 - 2001, a issue of Hugi had more than 300 downloads on the first day after its release, and demos were downloaded far more often than diskmags.
Most people are probably watching the youtube capture only.
Top demo from Orange!
Works nicely on my 1060 3GB, much smoother than the other two top demos from the same compo.

What hitchhikr said. Add the download count to the youtube count to get the true number of viewers. The 500 MB download is probably sending many people to the capture. Can't compare it to a 5 MB diskmag.
what a fantastic comeback! it feels like the beloved oldschool way of orange and clearly 2018 at the same time - my favorite from the compo.
extra probs for the chord progressions in the main song and of course the whole credits song which has everything i adore about dune tunes.

Amazing and very fresh demo.
Really love both music parts, and the visual rendering blew me away at compo time - well done!
complex vectors, magic environment map, tricky gouraud
I like it. I don't care if it's done with UE. I had a nice long conversation with Iiro (der piipo) - like week before asm'18 - about art in demos and this pret-ty much delivers what Iiro had in his mind at the time. Hoping to see more in near future.
Really great
I love the cable flock
I love the cable flock
Love the visuals and the music.
But in some parts they don't work very well together.
It's the only demo which runs properly on my machine, so thanks for using UE!

Hey orange folks, if you have problems on non-NVidia cards, make sure you reach out to Epic, there are some friendly sceners working here who could help if they knew ;-)
I like the visuals but I think I like the music even more :-)
Very very good :)
nicely done! love that last part with the glowing balls
Solid traditional demo style. And yeah the ending part music <3
Nice prod, but it's a bit lame not to mention UE in the nfo...
Absolutely great. Thanks for yet more productions.
I found it a bit of a snooze to be honest. Sorry.
Wow, that was way better than I expected!
Solid!
Decent. :)
Some moments are awesome
Welcome back jrange!

Nice clown :)
Very pretty scenes and a mostly cohesive design with nice twists. And a great soundtrack that underlines the atmosphere. I felt truly entertained.

<3
this was refreshingly demoish and modern at the same time. mask tearing was really nice looking
My favorite from the compo.
I'm really sorry for my previous mistake...This prod should have won. Totally. I didn't watch all the demos from compo.
The only thing I dont like of this demo is that i dont know where the name of this demo refers to..
Keep making them like this so you wont be a dying star perhaps derPiipo and Dune?

from 5:15 on all of a sudden it becomes world class! chapeau!
very rewatchable demo with splendid soundtrack!
respekt! (haven´t been around when you were rocking the scene before, had some 10-years-scene-hiatus after amiga died!)
i really digged the end-part...the music there is double-splendid...and you took care of brilliant sync-work there aswell, i love when everything is perfect! :)

Would have been much more impressed if it was handcoded by hoplite.
Still, nice visuals and audio.
Still, nice visuals and audio.
very nice effects. the overlays were a little too much like scene poetry for me and it seemed to lack the cohesiveness of the other compo winners. certainly worth the wait though!
.
Don't care about the UE thing. Maybe thats how pc-demos work nowadays. Moreover, even if they would have done it in Powerpoint, everyone could clearly recognize this as a genuine orange-demo. Hence:
Thank you so much for this. Visuals are awesome and the soundtrack is fantastic.

nice visuals and nice music. doesn't fit together though. also: glenz?
thumb for doing a comeback i guess.

I can’t believe Orange is back!
Very enjoyable demo! Keep going, guys!

Good to have Orange back. Dune's soundtrack is sublime as always, and although it felt more like an assortment of pretty scenes without a coherent direction (unlike the other top-3 prods), some of them were nothing short of pure bliss. Like the credits scene... good god. On that note, a question: was the physical aspect of mask tearing made using some kind of UE cloth simulation preset, or was it some algorithm you implemented yourself? That's kind of the problem with fully-fledged engines: one can't tell the degree of effort that was put into one thing or another with any sort of accuracy... Please do mention it on the slide next time; I spent several minutes shaking my head in disbelief that rendering of this caliber was programmed after years of absence by a single person thanks to "mad skills". :)
Got to watch it again in other configurations to get the realtime coding effort.
Nice to see Orange back again, new toys I guess, and nice how you exploited the new hardware capabilities.
Eagger to follow a making off on your new technology.
Really impressive.
Artistically ...well nobody uses that dirty jacks anymore.
Just kidding. REally good stuff in here.

nice to see an orange one again even if it's another orange than before ;) thumb for your comeback!
The music of the main part not only works as a glue for the visuals but is really, really good and would work on its own as a standalone release.
(Would be great to have it as a separate audio file.)

Great comeback with "putain d'effets de la mort qui tue sa race, bordel quoi !" :-)
This Assembly Party is exceptionnal !!!

motivational thumb! nuff' said. :)
Not bad. Some good looking scene. The music is a bit boring and just plays along imo.
(screaming like a proper groupie)
This demo has photorealistic swimming TRS connectors.
I rewatched it today (not the only rewatch) and have to say: There are so many scenes in here that I would gladly take stills from, print them, frame them and put them up on my wall! The colors, the textures, the lighting, the detail, the glitch overlays... it all just comes together in a mesmerizing way.
The scenes are a bit disjoint, but I don't really care when they caress my visual cortex so nicely :)
And that clown still blows my mind.

The visuals are Uber nice, but somehow the music doesn't work for me at all. It feels that with another soundtrack this demo could go to another level.
If there's ever another Demovibes, I hope this is on it.
Makes me happy when I watch it
perfection
Truly compelling - I've watched this over and over. Truly an outstanding production - my favourite of 2018.
The more I watch this the more autobiographical it feels.
If not strictly personally, perhaps as some universal totality that applies to all of Us.

Adorable
How did I ignore this until now. I love it so much.
Super nice to see Orange back in doing great scene visuals. Would really love to see more of this!
In case I understood correctly, this demo uses custom version of the Unreal Engine. Still big respect from me towards you making a solid visual experience, as from what I have heard a lot of time has been spent in this prod for making custom shaders. Also the visuals bind perfectly with the tune, so a definite thumbs up from me.

Awesome!
PENNYWISE!!
no-thumb again.. how can i be this clumsy..
however this artistic master piece, not only relaxing demo to watch, caught my eye totally. but why use any other engine than notch? think you cannot find coder to beat smash no matter how great audio/visual ideas you got.
ps. i downloaded the endpart music here too. it is awesome and worth ripping it!

lovely orange
Good show, though it did seem for me to lose the thread a bit towards the end, whereas the beginning more clearly had a discernable theme...
Good lord yes \o/
how come this is missing my thumb?
Cela envoie clairement du bois.
The outro song is so marvellous, it's one of the craziest beat I've heard, it is soooo dirty, it's dragging its feet, this is stuff to die for. Thank you <3

fucking yes!
omg the soundtrack in this and direction is wonderful. what a compo it was.
just a perfect demo, made with pure love. good job and nice to still have you around.
Mesmerizing, traditional demo with a lot of soul. Music is excellent.
I didn't like the text (it's too distracting) although the effect is very pretty.

Amazing demo and tune. Love Orange.
oh, never commented on this one? <3, 1999 style in 2019 tech.
Holy smokes!

It pisses me off a bit because it's such a perfect "demo" demo, but since it's UE you can't really carry it around as a great example for the scene. :(
