they kinda messed up informations at the party, but that happens. this is in fact a collaboration. Kuemmel had the tune and some visuals and asked if I wanna join since he also had bytes left. so things evolved and we decided to send it to @party. the sound in the background came from trying cutting bytes and we thought it fits to the atmosphere - so it simply stayed.

video will follow. for more informations please have a look into the source. as always: please enjoy :)

ps: yay! time to celebrate! this is my 64th (62 + 2 collabs) release :D
In dosbox the sound ran horribly out of any synchronization (should be fairly trivial since the melody carries a monophonic texture at constant note values) so I'll way for a video to hear how it's actually supposed to sound.

After the title I somewhat expected a miracle and even a very cruel version of Savage's heavy metal classic

as soundtrack :)

Putting jokes aside I like this intro, neat idea executed perfectly.

Yeah alright, that's better. I like the original from Revision better though, it was more enchanting and psychedelic.

Youtube is here. Special greets to Gargaj for imposing the whole thing indirectly by his comment on my Revision entry :-)

@Nitro: I got that superb album when it came out ! It was the first time I heard the melody, only later discovered it's from Edvard Grieg.

Thanks for releasing the sources; tried this on a real dos machine where it produced no sound. By what mechanism is the sound supposed to be generated? Is some special configuration required?
rulez added on the 2021-08-17 16:48:32 by rac rac
@rac: It uses MIDI for sound output, I never tried on a real hardware setup, but in theory it should work if there's a soundcard with a GENERAL MIDI instrument set that is setup and works in DOS.
added on the 2021-08-17 16:59:55 by Kuemmel Kuemmel
@Kuemmel: Thanks for the clarificattion. Well, I don't have MIDI. From the video I think it's a great idea to stuff the tune with bass notes in order to preserve the character of the theme but have all notes of the same length value. Besides that, devildude looks different on the real DOS installation (using codepage 850). Is some specific codepage required? Great work anyway!
